Me and a friend of mine was driving from cochin to Trivandrum one day early morning. We were only a few kilometers away from the Trivandrum town and there were lots of school kids on the road. Many of them were asking for a lift from bike riders, but none of them seemed to ask the cars except for two.

We were impressed with their confidence and decided to offer them a lift. As soon as they got inside, they started asking all sorts of questions. They wanted to know who we were and what our job was and stuff. We replied with hilarious answers like we were smugglers and stuff. But the kids proved to be more intelligent that we had thought.

One of them was in the 9th STD and I began asking him about his studies, teachers and his future plans. He didn’t seem to care about anything. So I began to give him advice, about the importance of education and stuff.

Then I asked him about his plans for getting good marks in the SSLC examination. So told me a very strange thing. “I have no plans to study in class 10th. Anyone who writes some rubbish against the question number will get a distinction, then why should I waste my time studying”

The boy was referring to the 90+ pass percentage in this years SSLC examination. Everyone passes and a majority gets a distinction. If this is the case, then Ill also think like him.

Applying the principles of socialism and equality on exam results is not going to do this country any good. Similar Posts:

What is happening to our SSLC toppers ? Are they able to maintain their performance. Is our parameters for measuring performance wrong ? Is it soo necessary to put the children through so much of pressure. in the name of a silly examination ?

For my 10th, we were banned from all extra curricular activities. No games, no fun, no holidays. Everything revolved around the exam. And I got very good marks. But that mark list has been of no use to me. None cares how much I got for my SSLC. During campus placement a few companies asked for a consistent performance of 60%. I have 30% more, and for that the sacrifice was too much. I could have learned some life skills.

All that you get out of your SSLC is an admission to a +2 school. There are too many schools and with a distinction you can get into almost any school. Then why are we wasting golden years of the student, putting him through too much of pressure and restraining him from all the extra curricular activities.Similar Posts:
