The recent 7th Class text book controversy comes at the right time when the Kerala Government is hunting down the faith traders. Here is a translation of the controversy.
Principal: “What is your name?”
“Jeevan”
Principal: “Nice…father’s name?”
“Anwar Rasheed”
principal: Mother’s name?”
“Lakshmi Devi”
The Principal looks at the parents
Principal: “What should I fill in for the kid’s religion?”
Parents : “Keep it blank…or else add No Religion”
Principal: “Caste”
Parents : “not needed”
The Principal leans back on his chair and asks solemnly
Principal: “What if he wants a religion when he grows up?”
Parents : “If he wants a religion when he grows up, he can choose the one he likes then”
Does this sound anti religious ??
Secularism a concept that should be taught at a younger age. Every child must understand that his religion is not special. Its one among 100s of other religions and there is no point it giving it more importance than humanity.
If this textbook is removed from the curriculum we can no longer say that India is a secular country. If religious beliefs are protected in this country, then there should be protection given to non religious secular thoughts also. Having no religion is not a crime.
Religion is something personal. All the religious problems that our country is facing is due to the freedom given to the religious believers to take their beliefs to the street. We all have the freedom to believe in anything we like, and the same freedom is there for everyone else, be it your wife, your son or your friend.
Instead of banning the textbook, ban the following.
- Public religious processions
- Irritating noise making religions (pentacostes)
- Reigious instruction in aided schools

I hope the Santhosh Madhavan Episode has cast the death spell of Swamis in Kerala. Atleast it will prevent new Swamis from entering the lucrative faith market. Lets forgive the big shots, the established ones. They are too connected, and too wealthy to face an investigation. The Babas and the Mathas are virtual Kings and Queens.
Now the entire media attention is on the Swamis. But there is another kind of faith sellers, the ones who come in Blazers and executive dresses. To see a real example check today’s Mathrubhumi, page 13, Trivandrum Edition. There is a full page Ad. Or check out GOD channel or the Miracle Channel. These guys are the modern version of our Swamis.
For the time being they appear harmless. All that they cause now is noise pollution, and defamation of the true Christian. But basically they are also into a dangerous business, the business of faith. And faith have this very small problem. It makes you vulnerable. Swamis took advantage of their followers faith. These guys are next.
They sell GOD in pieces. They sell miracles. They are the wholesale dealers of faith. Check their internal hierarchy and you will find scandals, self proclaimed Bishops, people with criminal backgrounds etc.
These guys will be the Santhosh Madhavans of the future if we dont put a check on their activities. These guys are getting huge amounts of money from outside India. We ease upon their activities because the police and the government is afraid to touch a sensitive area. Religious sentiments are a powerful excuse for all sorts of nonsense.

I was quite surprised to read the news about the two 7th day adventists who were allowed by the Kerala High court to write the SSLC examination after dark, to protect their so called religious beliefs. It was a very bad thing to do, and its not something to be encouraged.
I want to know what those girls are going to do when they get into some company where saturday is a working day. I want to know how much loyal they will be to their faith. And what about their 7th day friends who wrote the examination in day time ? Will they be burned at stake, or will they be denied of salvation ….. Nuts…..
What if the Muslims are going to demand a holiday on friday ? What if tomorrow I form a religion and say that my followers must be allowed to walk naked through the streets. Will the Supreme court allow that saying that its a religious matter ?
Why is there a ban on meat trade in Gujarat ? No trader is asking the Jains to eat meat. Why are other religion followers forced to accommodate for a Jain festival ? Is this secularism ? What is tomorrow Christians go to the court saying that all meat trade be stopped during their Lent period ?
The word secular is being misinterpreted here. Secular means free from all religions, not bound to any religion. Secular does not mean tolerating any nonsense that is propagated in the name of religion and stupid religious belief.
