The following happened in an engineering college in central Kerala. This was send to me by a student there.

9th October 2011,Sunday

The father of one of the student in S7 CS Batch passed away. The students decide to attend the funeral which was scheduled to take place at 3:30 PM 10th October 2011. Student representatives approached the class teacher and notified her of the decision. She conveyed the decision to the HOD, but there was no further communication from the authorities.

10th October 2011,Monday

In the morning, student representatives met with the class teacher, associate teacher and the HOD, and informed them of the decision to go by bus to attend the funeral. The funeral was to take place at a place which is more than 2 hours driving from the college. The HOD informed the students that they will not be given permission to leave till 10:30,but since there was a long distance to be covered, the students left at 9:30. En route, the bus broke down and the students reached the destination by 1:45 PM

The HOD left college by car, with the class teacher, and few other teachers at 11 AM and reached the funeral place by 1 PM. Students returned to college at approximately 8 PM after the funeral.

11th October 2011,Tuesday

Students came to class like any normal working day. From 9 AM onwards the students were called out and interrogated in a police fashion about the events of 10th October. Those who were called were made to sign statements made.Threats of suspension and dismissal were made for going for the funeral without proper consent from the college.

The driver of the bus that was hired was also interrogated with questions like “Did they play music and dance on the way back?”.

At 3:30 PM, a female student fainted during the interrogation. The teachers took her to a nearby class room, made her lie on the bench and ordered everyone else to get out.The girl began to hyperventilate but the teachers accused her of acting and refused to take her to the hospital.

Finally the students intervened and took her to a hospital where she was treated for exhaustion and upper respiratory track inflammation induced by stress. The student had no history of stress attacks or asthma which was verified by her uncle and aunt when they came to pick her from the hospital.

These chain on incidents makes me ask many questions.

Do you have the right to attend a friends dads funeral ?
Do you need a written permission from your college management for taking a leave?
Why didnt the college send the students in a college bus ?
Can colleges intervene in personal matters like these ?
What would have happened if the girls situation had worsened ?
How do you deal with teachers who derive pleasure from torturing you ?Similar Posts:

Technology plays an integral part in modern schools to help pupils learn more efficiently and to learn new skills. Pupils use computers for a number of reasons as they can build a bridge between school and workplace. By using a computer pupils can learn to use such applications as PowerPoint and excel. Computers can be used for creative purposes as well allowing pupils to edit films that they have made. Other pieces of technology that can be utilised in schools include digital cameras and editing suites.

Use of computers in schools

Computers form an important role in schools as they offer a variety of uses to help pupils learn. Computers are useful to pupils as they help them to conduct research for an assignment or to help educate them generally. The following are examples of how computers are used in schools.

The use of computers to improve typing skills

Pupils can learn many basic tasks associated with administration work to help them prepare for future employment. Pupils can learn to type at an early age, which will give them an important skill in life. The ability to type efficiently will help them to be more efficient when it comes to schoolwork. Computers can encouraged to, learn such programs as Excel and Word. These are important skills will help pupils once they have left education behind.

The use of computers for media work

Students can be encouraged to shoot short films on digital cameras and to edit the footage on an editing program. Pupils could even be given the opportunity to enter their films into a festival.

Computers for research purposes

There was a time when school pupils had to conduct research in the library using books. Now pupils have access to computers, which grant them the opportunity to access a wealth of information via CD ROMs and the internet.

Computers for educational games

Games are great way of getting children to learn. Educational software can help to teach such subjects as maths, English and art. The great thing about learning such subjects on a computer as that they can go through a task again and again until they have become familiar with it.

Computers for presentations

PowerPoint can be a great asset for pupils to make their presentations. High quality presentations can be created with the use of this software.

Pupils that have special needs benefit from adaptive technologies such as voice recognition software for the blind.

Video cameras

Students can get creative by using video cameras. Digital video equipment can serve a number of purposes included;

To record presentations.

To record documentaries.

Students can get really creative and attempt to make advertisements.

The videos created by students can be edited on a computer which can then be uploaded to You Tube.

A recent report submitted to the Kerala government by an expert committee recommended that till Xth standard Malayalam must be taught as first language and in XI and XII th, there must be a facility to study Malayalam. There were a many discussion about this in many online groups and forums and I observed a few patterns in all of them.

There are a lot of language fanatics among us also, we criticize the Tamilians and the Maharashtrians for their extreme local policies, but when a similar situation comes we are also not very different.

We fail to see language as it is. Language is a tool we use to communicate, nothing more nothing less. Its the communication that is important and not the language. Thats why you find it difficult in Tamil Nadu to travel in buses cos they have place names written only in Tamil.

Some people are really emotional about these discussions and they think of it as a fight between English and Malayalam. Some even attribute it as the second freedom struggle to liberate us from the English language.

Personally I enjoyed studying Malayalam until the syllabus turned from being a language class to a literature class. The poems, the complicated passages etc became a headache and they started eating into the progress card. I am not the kind of person who wants to have anything to do with poetry, that too centuries old and has got no resemblance what so ever to the Malayalam that we use now.

A friend of mine joined for BSc physics and quit the course after 6 months saying that they teach more Malayalam and English there than physics. I wonder when the government will setup a committee to to free college education from compulsory language training.Similar Posts:

Over the past couple of days, my friends and I had a rather intense discussion on the effectiveness of an Indian MBA and comparing it with a foreign MBA- an American one, mostly. Though none of us held an Indian MBA, one was doing his MBA in Canada. Rest of us are either in the pipeline or know a thing or two about the ground reality. Throughout our 22 mails that we exchanged on this topic, a few things were quite apparent. Although we were all saying different things, it was clear that in reality, we were saying the same things differently. An MBA from India can never equal an American MBA unless its from ISB, Hyderabad. Or PERHAPS, the IIMs (these aren’t highly rated on a global scale). Since the discussion was heavily inclined to one side, it is reasonable to assume that some aspects of the Indian MBA have been completely left out. Feel free to debate those!

Let us look at the main differences:

1. The importance of work experience

Indian MBAs give work experience, the least weightage while the foreign ones rank it at the highest. But there’s a not so obvious factor to this. If you do have work experience and choose to attend an Indian MBA, to your dismay, you’ll end up in a class with little or no work experience. And how does this hamper your experience? You’ll just find yourself between a very immature peer group. The admissions process for foreign universities ensure that the class is very diverse in every possible way. One way of ensuring that is by selecting people with different work experiences and the quality of so. Most of the MBA courses, here in India, choose students primarily on the basis of a written test. This is certainly a good indicator of what kind of academic promise you hold but should that really be a deciding factor in deciding if you succeed in a senior management role, later on? I think the selection process should give more leeway for assessment of a person as a complete package. Further, if you want to join Goldman Sachs as an Associate, what makes you think that you have whatever it takes to lead a team? Let us not discard the importance of work experience.

2. Maturity of the peer group

They say for one to get selected for the training program for Airbus A380, you need to be between 42 and 58 years old, among other qualifications. People, most of them, mature like wine. By 42, you’re certainly experienced in the art of flying, you would have encountered several instances where your skill, ability and aptitude have been thoroughly tested and above all, the very fact that you’re still in the business and are a commander of an aircraft is testimony enough to your abilities as a pilot. This also means that when you attend the training program, you’ll have a lot to bring to the table. Similarly, the other pilots who you’re gonna train with, are going to be equally experienced. The end result? Everyone gets to learn a lot from everyone else. The courseware for the training can be modified in accordance to these and with every batch, the course just gets better and better. Makes sense? This is how a typical foreign MBA works. People learn from their peer groups more than they learn from the theory.

3. The Attitude and Interest of your classmates

From my interactions with alumni of various colleges in the US, I can conclude that there are plenty of career changers much like what we have in India. But the quality of work experience and most importantly, their motives, differ widely. A lot of Indians claim that post MBA, they would want to work in consulting or investment banking though they may not have the slightest idea about the job functions. Why? Because they pay well. It is like saying that you became an entrepreneur because you wanted to make money. Sadly, you’re in the wrong club. You don’t make money or get rich until a lot later, if you’re an entrepreneur running your own firm. I’m not sure how widespread this attitude is, but one doesn’t necessarily need to go to a B-School to get rich. One sure shot way of getting rich is to find something that you love doing and get someone to pay you through their nose for that. If not, you’ll end up burning out.

4. The Opportunities

Engineering graduates take to IT after their graduation because apparently, they seem to pay well in the begining. But after 2 or 3 years, they find out that they’re bored with the jobs and need something else. Most of such cases include not getting a promotion or having problems with superiors and the like. They then choose to attend a B-School! Much to their dismay, they find that bulk of the recruiters who come to the B-school are still from IT and they get picked up as Business Analysts and perhaps other managerial roles in IT. So what exactly is happening here? Firstly, no matter what your specialization is, you end up getting recycled back into IT- this is not a bad thing if you’re deeply interested in it but then going back, we see that most people were bored to start with. Secondly, bad talent or immature managerial talent is just pumped back into the same pool. The result? The same problem of immature managers, bad bosses and other people problems, all contributing to the attrition. Of course, another problem worth pointing out is the lack of opportunities post an Indian MBA as opposed to the plethora of opportunities post a foreign MBA.

5. The exclusive club

Foreign MBAs have a variety of barriers that deter casual candidates from applying. Though they want exceptional candidates, they see to it that only the serious even apply. High application fee ($250), a very long drawn application ensure that only the motivated even apply. This is n stark contrast to what I have noticed about colleges in India. Also, an MBA is an exorbitantly expensive affair abroad. It can set you back by a good $150,000. Of course, its an incredible ROI considering the fact that you’ll make at least as much in the first year itself.

6. Entrepreneurship

…is THE FUTURE in India. Of course, you don’t really need an MBA to be one either. You just need an idea, drive and the vision to go on and create one. MBAs abroad focus so much on entrepreneurship and the resources available to their students that I’m forced to believe that there’s something that there’s something at offer there. And I’m certain that unless you’re from the IIMs or ISB- which have a dedicated entrepreneurship or an incubation cell, you’re probably better off putting that money you saved up for an Indian MBA, into your business.

In conclusion, I believe that though a foreign management education is not for everyone in terms of their requirements and financial burden they inflict, they’re often the best out there. But again, going by the process of elimination, does it make sense to get an Indian MBA? From what I’ve seen and heard so far, Indian MBA simply does NOT work and I think a few minutes back, I just saw how PATHETIC it can get. So would you still settle for an ineffective means just because what works, is out of your reach? I say if you’re really interested in an MBA, wait, work towards it and then get it from some place worth getting it from. Bottomline is that Indian MBAs are often not even worth the very paper that they’re printed on. Have counterpoint to these? I’m sure I would have missed out quite a few useful parts of an Indian MBA. Care to share those? Use the comments section.

Here’s an interesting post I came across:

From http://www.vinni.in/2010/06/the-11-point-mba-check-list/

Every year, I see an army of young hopefuls who want to become an MBA and ‘lead the business world’. Every year, I see the same ads in the paper with colleges luring students with false promises, claims and just leaving tonnes of broken hearts and battered egos at the end of two years.

I was at the induction ceremony for the batch of 2012, and even caught up with a few. Some wanted to become Investment Bankers, some wanted to become Brand Managers and I couldn’t help but snicker way to glory.

Welcome to the real world, bakra of the highest order. Be prepared for the following:

1.MBA won’t get you the job you thought would be cool since you read it in some business magazine you were told you read while at IMS

2.Jobs after an MBA are not glamorous, they will make you sweat, bleed and trample you the moment they find you weak and restless.

3.The college would claim that the faculty is from IIMs, foreign universities. IIMs should be read as Indrani Institute of Management, International Institute of Management etc. and foreign universities assumed to be Kathmandu University, Karachi School of Business etc.

4.The world class infrastructure would be shared with other schools in the vicinity and maybe even let out to other parties when you need it the most.

5.You will learn nothing new in MBA.

6.The only reason IT companies will hire you is because they can bill their clients at a higher rate.

7.The only reason why companies will pay you ridiculous large amounts of money is because they will leech the life out of you, leaving you maimed to never start your own venture to compete with them in the future.

8.You will realize that though you blame and poke at the teachers for being so full of gas, you are not any different. People won’t listen to you, since you cannot phaff with experience.

9.MBA is a lot about travel, but not to exotic locations or that you will become a jet setter. You will travel by non AC buses to Dhampur, Hospet, Salem, Mohol and other places where village girls will seem like super models.

10.If you want to do an MBA to earn more money, it’s the worst reason you can give yourself and to people around you. You stand better chances working your ass off doing what you are doing, or just job hopping.

11.If you have a chance, DON’T do an MBA. Utilize the two years starting something of your own, before someone else does it. Two years is a lot of time and time is precious.
Still think MBA is right for you or MBA is the right thing to do?

There is a saying “The main reason for inferiority complex is the people with Superiority complex and vice versa”.

The reason why we come across this is that; we can find a numerous situations around us, people blaming others for their own failures and at the same time others who blame themselves for their failures.

What can be the reason why a same person can conclude on a fact in two different ways?

The answer for this is their inbuilt “complex”; superiority or inferiority complex. Humans were born superior. But what happened after that. They conceived things from the society and they came to conclusions according to the way society treated them.

Superiority complex up to certain limit is good, but the problem arises when the complex goes to its extremes. This can lead a person to take tasks which are above their capabilities. Superiority complex is generated either by the overkill appraisal by people or by the self esteemed goals to reach above others.

Whom do they harm?

They harm themselves ending up in a position realizing their own potential. For some people this might be a huge mental shock which can make them a person with extreme inferiority complex. Even they can harm others, which is even more terrible that they will make others feel that they are inferior increasing their inferiority complex.

Feeling inferior have never proved of having any advantages. It makes the person more and more cheerless ending up to a mental breakdown. Inferior feeling might have generated from some past experiences of childhood or some present situation.

What’s the solution?

People should constantly look into themselves on their abilities and rate them to a proper level. People who has inferiority complex should stop comparing them with others (especially the one who make them feel inferior). Instead they should identify their skills and the talents which they themselves excel. They should understand the fact that everyone in this world is unique.

Have you consider yourself the most successful person?

You should understand that there was many others who were more successful that you or there will be someone else, going to be more successful than yourself.

Do you feel you are not successful and worthless than people around you?

You should understand that success or talents or whatever others have doesn’t mean that they got everything. You look into yourself and identify the best qualities that you have, that the people who feel successful can never ever dream of.Similar Posts:

I’m glazing on the stars up high
On the rocks which make me high
I wish we together could fly
To shoot some stars up in the sky

Those days were so lovely n fine
I sat beside you in peaceful dine
I could feel your skin on mine
Making my mind and face so shine

I wish I could lock my lips
Connecting our hearts to a mental bliss
You should tell it’s that perfect kiss
Giving a reason for my heart to fizz

When I’m together with you
I never want to depart this life
And when time comes, before my death
I wanna take a gulp of your breath

I had to shift my plans when they proposed the plan for Kolad. We 4 started off from Mumbai to our destination Kolad where we can do Rafting. We called and arranged the package for the cheapest rate available. As they told us to reach there on Sunday morning at 8.00 o clock we extended out trip to Lonavla and Kandala. Lonavla is the nearest hill place near Mumbai.

We took a diversion through the Navi Mumbai where I could see the constructions in progress. Navi Mumbai is the only place where you can find a sea facing apartment for a reasonable price. We saw the headquarters of ICICI bank and the Diamond market. Navi seems to be a bit more planned with places divided into sectors. I couldn’t find any slums as it was marshy land before Mumbai started shifting.

We took the express way for Lonavla as its on the way Pune express highway. I felt the sign boards lying as we flew in 140km/hr. We reached Lonavla at 6.30 pm. We tried our bargaining power in many hotels till we got a reasonable one. We had some starter drinks before we left for Dinner. After the dinner we roamed around and enjoyed the cool wind flashing on our face as we had a chocolate flavored ice-cream.

The room door was open when we woke up at 6 o clock in the morning. Quickly we refreshed as we were supposed to leave at 6 to Kolad for our rafting. We had to shift to the Mumbai Goa high way. We reached Kolad at 9.00 where we had egg burgy as breakfast. You will forget your bad luck if you hear ours. We had to cancel our rafting plans as the dam was under repair.

With the disappointment we had a bath in that stream with very low water flow. The stones were pebbles that I never found any rock with sharp edges or rough surface. We left the black rock stream for rock climbing.

We reached the Kamat Resorts and booked a package for Rock climbing rappelling and free fox flying. If achieving goals makes you happy you should try rock climbing which will make you happier. If you are Acrophobic then you should try Rappelling which might cure you height problems. And if you dream of being any supernatural powers free fox flying will be inspirational.

We had a Punjabi lunch before we went for that blast. We had to wait a bit as there was another team climbing the wall. I successfully climbed 45 feet without shoes even though last 5 feet seemed really difficult. I had my rappelling and free fox flying after that.

We started our journey back at 4.30 with Kuru explaining his bachelor theory. According to Bachelor theory a Bachelor Persons Monday in the office will be really hectic with the hangover from the week end blast. Tuesday will be better where as on Wednesday they will be busy finishing of the targets of other two days. Thursday will be normal where as Friday will be cheerful as the next weekend is on!

Where as a married man’s case will be totally different. He struggles pushing the time on weekend with his wife. And will be sooo happy on Monday as he doesn’t have to be with his wife for 5 days. His happiness decreases as week grows. And will be so disappointed on Friday evening.

We reached back home at 7.30 evening. I couldn’t take any pictures as my phone went off coz of low battery before we reached Lonavla.Similar Posts:
