I used to be a cricket fan many years ago, used to watch cricket even on exam days. I had hopes that someone from Kerala would make it to the Indian team, but I realized that selection is not a fair game and my favorite players would never make it to the team.
Sunil Oasis and Anadapathmanabhan were promising players who could have been chosen to the Indian team. At least they should have been given one series to play, an opportunity to prove themselves. But they had no god fathers.
The so called hero Anil Kumble saw Anandapdmanabhan as a threat to his leg spinner post in the Indian team, during the south zone matches he captained he would see it to that Ananadapadmanabhan never gets a chance to establish himself, he would only give him an over here, an over there, never allowing him to settle down. Unlike Kumble he was all rounder who has scored double centuries in ranji matches, he had 10 wicket streaks many times.
The most pathetic moment is when you speak to some cricket fan here in Kerala and they dont even know who these fellows are. If we even dont know who our local players are, then how are we supposed to support them ?
Now coming back to IPL and the new team some company registered in March 3, 2010 got for cochin, what’s the connection between that team and Keralites ? Ive been seeing media crying that Kerala now has a team to cheer for !!! I wonder whom I am supposed to cheer for ? Is IPL trying to play with regional feelings ?
Todays Manorama is full of Kochi’s IPL team news. I hope they would publish an article soon about the ill effects of IPL on children, especially the ones with exams these days, the time these kids are wasting on IPL, how its distracting their thoughts etc. Will they publish such a thing ?

Kenney,
I beg to differ with you… Being someone who knows and has played with some of the oasis, the kuduvas, the ananthapadmanabhans and tinu’s i know how big an opportunity this is for the young and upcoming stars like manikandans, hegde, rohan prem, raiphy, sebastin antony, samba sharma and others to display their wares. plus Kerala gets IPL is mentioned cuz it was a group from kerala who bid for the team.. it is not like lalit modi woke up and thought ok good kerala seems to have lot of cash, let them have a team…the others like jaypee group and all were representing individual states/cities..

How can u think like that? This is such an opportunity for the kerala players like Raify, hedge and all. Most of the IPl team have 4-5 regional players. If Atleast one can be part of the Team, how better it would be rather than doesnt having a IPL team which would create zero Opportunities!!!?Matches will be held in Kerala,so that business of crores will happen here which will help the top giants throgh the middle class job holders(Accountants,Attenders etc) to the lower class like a boy selling nuts during the cricket match…. So the media should celebrate this.. its our IPL team..
