    Bigger is Better

When we talk about marriage the first thing that hits most of our mind is how we are going to live after marriage. Is it going to be Nuclear family or a Joint family! Now to be honest most of the girls prefer to be in a nuclear family rather than joint family – though my preference is still a joint family.

Our generation has developed a narrow mind as the small apartments we live in. You must have seen most of our cousins do not even know their own mother tongue as they are brought up somewhere else far away from their family. The physical distance also leads to mental distance. In a joint family, we always have someone with us – to share and care.

Joint family also means – there is always backup available. We all know that working in a team gives better results, the same applies for family. A joint family is a bigger team. With this bigger team – the expenses also go down. The bigger team also means kids will have friends inside the family…with most of the families adopting 1 or 2 child policy.

One of the obstacles of joint family is jobs. But you can still come around this by settling for jobs near the house. Sure joint family means lots of sacrifices – especially in today’s busy world working women after slogging for the week at work they definitely require a lazy sunday.

Elder People trying to impose their views on the rest of the family was always a problem with joint families. But with the new generation that should not be a real problem. Elders in the family should be able to adjust better to make the joint family work.Ego is the first enemy against Joint family system. When both the partners shed their ego they tend to respect each others emotions.

Most of us have a wrong idea that we will get to share more love if we are in a nuclear family. But this is completely wrong.  When we live in a joint family we will have the expectation to be alone with your hubby/wife which actually increases your love.

Nuclear Families are just a convenience… Joint families are the way to go.

    3. Agree. I have anecdotical evidence that humility, respect for others and common sense are some things that learned better in joined families.

    5. I dont think Joint families are possible in todays world. Ofcourse its a good concept to talk about. When agriculture was the main income of the families in Kerala it was the need to have more people in the family.

    6. Joint families hmmm I doubt … they were the norms of yeteryears not for today. Professional commitments better education would all need the sacrifice of the virtues of join family..A nice vacation at the “tharavad” is certainly welcome.. good post looking foreward for more homely psots…..
