I was going through the Kaspersky India’s estore to find out the prices of antivirus subscriptions and I found a rather interesting pattern:
Kaspersky ® Internet Security 2010- 1 PC- 1 Year subscription costs 1559 INR
Kaspersky ® Internet Security 2010- 1 PC- 2 Years subscription costs 4032INR
Similarly-
Kaspersky ® Internet Security 2010- 3 PC- 1 Year subscription costs 1885 INR
Kaspersky ® Internet Security 2010- 3 PC- 2 Years subscription costs 8064INR
Does ANYONE know how the HELL does the rule of bulk add costs? I mean Walmart delivers the value by bulk and here we something that’s simply outrageous!

I think you will find the same for all the other big AV’s out there…3 user LIC’s are Usually cheaper than 1 user LIC. Another interesting thing that I have observed is that now a days not a single AV is 100% secure – there are too many small viruses and worms out there that is eating away all your resources. So I dont think it is worth spending your money and buying one. Instead get one of the FREE one’s or the 30/60 day trials and change your AV after the expiry of the Trial. Avira and Clamwin have Free editions – that you can try.
Prevention is always better than cure – watch out for the websites that you go to – if it is asking to install anything on your computer – refuse if it is not directly from of the big vendors, never auto play any removable media – you can actually disable it completely on you Group Policy editor. And always make sure you Scan and clean virus before you double click on any removable drive. Always keep an eye on your process listing – anything funny – kill it!

The point is not that of a three user license being cheaper- I mean it IS cheaper because its more like buying in bulk. My question is, why isn’t the same rule applicable when coming to the duration of subscription? Take a look at the single user one year plan- it costs 1559 INR but the same damn thing costs 4032 INR for the two year plan which approximately works out as 2.5 times! For anything, the company should be rewarding the customer for sticking with it for another year, but we see something completely opposite here. Why?

i think it because they need long time customers. if you give a service for two years in less than the cost of one year you will go for two year. so they will get you for two years. !

Agreed. So the pricing should still be based on the first year pricing right? It doesn’t make a lot of sense to someone like me who looks at the 1 year plan and then finds out that the 2 year plan costs 2.5 times more whereas they’re expected to provide the service in the range of 1.5-1.8 times the cost of the first plan. Its like charging Re.1 for 1 Kilo and then charging Rs.3 for 2 Kilos. Such a pricing would only give short time customers! Why are they doing this???

There are some folks at Kapersky India who are clearly pricing-challenged.
