It seems there is a law which says you cannot conduct parties with more than 2.5 liters of alcohol. If you want to do that, you need to get prior written permission from the Excise deputy commissioner. You also will have to pay a license fees of 25,000 Rs. The rule gets even sillier. You are allowed to use only Indian made liquor.

This rule is totally against the interest Keralites. An average drinking malayalee can finish half a bottle in one drinking session. That means 2.5 liters will only serve 5 or 6 people. Ooopss… that would mean, Ill have to spend 25,000 Rs and get special permission every time I decide to drink.

We are a state which democratically elected the first communist government and still we have such a rule here. Is the government trying to say that only the rich can party ?

We should all form a “All Kudiyans Association” and demand that the rule be abandoned immediately.

    1. We have such silly rules. Somewhere I read that the prison manuals is the same, as when the British left India. And if a judge decides you can get public flogging, I think we should use it while punishing corrupt officials.

    4. There are so many rules just meant to be broken. Legislators need to be little bit practical when forming rules, Also the rules should be updated in a regular basis considering the current situations.

If you believe alcohol is not good you can avoid it. You need not take responsibility for our health. :)

Malayalali alcohol parties are part of a custom, tradition for many years. Nearly more than majority of men in Kerala drinks alcohol. And majority among this group, are occasional drinkers. Rules should stand for the people.

Our govts. purpose in making such a kind of rule is just to show that there exits such a govt. Never wonder if they say you cant buy meat above 2.5 kg because beef can cause colon cancer. This law is absurd.

And the rule ofcourse has numerous loop holes.

    8. I guess why our law makers made this law is for the good of the society. If the government is allowing a person to store more than 2.5 litres of alchohol, misuse can occur. There are already people selling alchohol (foreign liquor) per glass rate (illegally) in certain homes in villages where nearest bar is 10 or 20 kms away. Some bakeries, certain homes and small hotels are in this industry in rural areas. If it is made legal then they would store more and will be bad for the society as a whole……………………….
…………there is a law banning selling alchohol and tobacco products to the minors…….is it being enforced well?……..
And how many of our youngsters know that long term use of alchohol is bad for them
      Read about Liver Cirrhosis
      http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/cirrhosis_ez/
this is a read bad disease and wish everyone who use alchohol for a while on heavy doses should please drop in and take a Liver Function Test, a blood test from a nearest lab and show it to your doctor………

I request those of you to stop this habit by reducing intake by quantity and frequency before it takes over you.

for those guys who are drinking alchohol and alchohol is not drinking them,,….you may ignore this…….

    9. If there is one thing that history has taught us, it is that heavy restrictions only result in illegal activities.

What we need is common sense regulations. Make the liquor laws more open. Make Arrack legal, that way government can ensure that the arrack is of good quality and not methylated spirit that kills people. With the ban, all the arrack/spirit business is with illegal mafias which cannot be regulated.
