Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

This question was posted in the Young Kerala Facebook group and Rajesh Venugopal, who runs the initiative answered with 9 points. I thought Ill share it with you guys.

    1. Relatives will stop comparing you with cousins who earn fixed monthly salaries.

    2. Relatives will invest in your businesses. The State must give them a tax break under family & friends category plus if your businesses shut down guarantee half the invested money back to our relatives.

    3. There must be a State VC fund with plenty of money to give away. And they must give it away every year.

    4. There must be good CA’s and Lawyers who can help a startup grow. Specialized knowledge in these areas.

    5. Young graduates must work in startups before they work else where.

    6. Kerala must impose a Emigration rule – work in Kerala for 10 years before going abroad. ECNRs go away !!

    7. Hourly pay rates against fixed salaries will help you keep our wage bills low. With 83/365 days harthals in 2008, this will be a cool situation.

    8. NRKs will dole out money and worldly advice to you to make you a success.

    9. All of Kerala will watch The Secret instead Sagar Alias Jacky reloaded.

    1. ECNR Rule is not meant to belittle NRIs. In response to Anand’s post on the same forum, I feel First Degree and Masters must be obtained from outside Kerala. This is the time for one to realise that there is a deeper ecosystem outside Kerala where one gets to interact with multicultural and motivated folks all focussed towards a clear goal. Exposure outside Kerala is needed at some level for Keralites to contribute within Kerala.

    2. Most of the points mentioned in the post are optional. Just give 24/7 power supply in industrial units and an environment where company can still operate even if there is a hartal. I will set up my unit in Kerala instead of what am doing here in Ahmedabad.

Its not that we are outside our hometown due to chance, its a conscious choice avoiding that place to start the first company.

As far as Ive seen, resources like finance or skilled people have no dearth in Kerala. Just that a unit depended on Cap-ex wont invest in there until the situation is conducive.

    3. Agree with everything on the list except the ‘Emigration rule’ and ‘The Secret’ movie – that’s one stupid movie/theory.

    7. Hi Kenney, you never mentioned the great obstacle for young Entrepreneur…. trade union culture. They will never allow us to maintain a business unless we are doing IT industry.
