Ok so now that we’re done with the most hyped elections in the Indian history where people like me were told that it was a matter of life and death (apparently for them it seems!), can someone tell me what actually happened? I have a gut feeling that the parties and everyone else involved did manage to borrow a thing or two about marketing from their US counterparts.
But beyond these things, what has changed? I mean we (not me, mind u!) brought back the same government and have retained the incompetent at a few places and YET have come to call this election phenomenal. And the educated like Sashi Tharoor are not in the news when the talk of major cabinet positions happens. We’ve done comparatively well economically so far thanks to a tightly regulated financial system (a foreign bank has to run from pillar to post if it even has to open a small branch in India, let alone anything complicated!) and it is definitely worth remembering that it was this very Government that tried a steep deregulation but saw RED every time they had such plans.
As far as I know, civilian causalities owing to terrorist attacks has been the highest under this regime (in terms of publicity for the terrorists the saying goes like this: every dead civilian is worth 10 in uniform). So, are you really sure that we didn’t make the same mistakes? Let us know coz I don’t seem to get it!
