School Girl Tortured and Finally Killed – This is Education in India

Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

I came home today evening to see a horrible news on TV. 11 year old school girl dies after being tortured by a teacher. The little girl was unable to recite the English alphabets in order and the teacher hit her head on table and made her stand in the sun for 2 hours. The girl fainted, went into a coma and later died in the hospital.

This is the face of education in India. When I was 12 years old, my maths teacher beat me and palm was cut. I still have that scar and everytime I see it, it reminds me of my horribleĀ  school days.

The death of a student is an extreme case of torture. But our kids are being tortured mentally everyday. A teacher is supposed to be GOD in the Indian culture. But for most students the GOD turns out to be Shiva, the lord of destruction. For this unfortunate student, it was even worse. The teacher turned out to be yamaraja, the lord of death.

Now who is to blame for this ? Who is responsible if the kid is not able to recite the alphabet ? What about suspending the English teacher for having failed in his duty ? How can we blame the student alone ? Can we even think about blaming the parents who are paying money to get their child educated ?

I am waiting for that day when we start holding teachers accountable for students failure.

    2. This is horrible!

Imagine that kid with a lung condition forced to stand in the scorching 40+ Delhi summer. And a woman did it, of all people!

Sad… As said above, these kinds of punishments need to be terminated in schools.

    4. it is a dark inccident… the teacher in question should be booked for assault and murder… totally shocking and inhumane

i still remember some sad events that occured during my schooldays… there was one boy (let’s call him Mr.X). He was a bit slow to grasp what the teacher was teaching.

When he failed to answer the teacher’s q, the teacher cursed him saying u will b ruined in life and hit him all over his body and twice in his head with a cane.. Luckily he didnt get hurt..

    5. The problem is that many of the Indian Teachers are highly egoistic, they takes professional matters as personal matters, non professional and with low Emotional quotient. They are not neutral and are partial in many situations. They have such a feudal, capitalist mentality and they will capsule feed the bright ones and beat the lagging ones.

    6. That news was really shocking. This was just one incident that got reported. In a country like India, imagine the number of cases that go unreported!

Indians are lovely people, but they need to be “educated” in every sense of the word.

    7. the fact that any cruel and in-humain person in their right mind would do this, is beyond belief! i dont understand how teachers can be god when the last tiome i checked, god doesnt physically or mentally or in any way hurt you. he takes a bad situation , and turns it around. so the fact that this is allowed, and also that parents are knowing this, they are sending their children to death if their chbildren do not know all the answers, i think the teachers should see what its like to be beaten to an inch of their life, for something they dont know. that teacher will not get away with this, god will judge them according to their sins.

    8. here’s what’s happened…

the british taught some indians to be clerks.. and therefore, the education system was bad…

And our teachers were taught by these people… who in turn get almost the same treatment….
