Love, compassion and forgiveness are some of the most respected qualities in human being. And I think they are the essence of a society. Forgiveness might not be a characteristic of every society, but the first two are.
But all these good human qualities are now claimed by religions. Do we need some religious organization or super natural power to tell us what’s right and what’s wrong ? Isn’t it something that’s built into our social genes.
Why do thieves steal ? Why do murderers kill ? Why do liars lie ? Is it because they don’t believe in a god or are not influenced by the divine powers ?
Will mans moral values deteriorate if there are no religions and religious rules ? Id say… religions are taking the credit away from human beings and our social nature. We are good, because people are generally good, and not because we are are afraid of being sent to hell.
Don’t you feel love when you see a baby ? Don’t you feel sad when your friend is sad ? Don’t you feel your blood boiling when you see injustice ? Is it because you believe in god ? Is it not possible to have all these feelings with out any divine intervention ?

We cant survive with out a value system.
And religion is bad only when it becomes politics.I mean when people starting forming
groups on the basis of religion.(religious organisations).
If there is no religion, will world be a better place?
No.Because something else will take that position. There is no religion in china, but
still it manages to be the no1 country when it comes to giving capital punishment.
People are generally good.religion is also a part of their goodness.
And religion is just a tool like science. You can use it to unite as well as divide.
Tell me kenney is science responsible for all the guns and bombs made?
No.The people who wanted that bombs to kill each other is responsible. The insecurity with in us which makes us to divide and hate is what really is bad.

You are saying the logic for banning mobile phones since some terrorists used them to team up or …………………….
all the religions are pure and preaches good values…but those who proclaim the collective leadership misuse them for their own use,,,,,,,,like the churches doing forcible conversion….sati, untouchability etc in india…….disregard for women and their in certain islamic countries……this does not mean that the religion as such is bad…..we know that real muslim do not follow the jehadi route……and real hindus won’t follow muthalik route………………………….
now love compassion are the qualities associated with god….so if you align with god , you natuarally be aligned wiht those values……the relgion which i borned to does not insist me to even worship a god in it………..it just says if you can concentrate on your work (dharma) with out greediness and thinking about the outcome…that is the best worship……………so i chose that religion……similiarly one should chose a compatable religion and if you do not find any thing good,it is also okie,….its ur life..enjoy every moment…….

“Religion” is the organization. Christ taught love and forgiveness. No religion is needed to follow those two principles.
The problem with religions is that they propagate ideas that are closed. Religions are based on blind faith. You are not allowed to question.
And as an example, lets see Hinduism. It was the most unorganized and open system of life. When you think of think of Hinduism as a religion, BJP, RSS, and the muthaliks score.
We don’t need any religious leaders to tell us whats good for us. We are generally good people.
As an individual I a really nice person. But the instant I say I am christian I am alleged of supporting an organization that owns self financing colleges, does forcible conversion (I dont agree to this) etc… I am also forced to take the partial blame of what the “leaders” do.
And dont ever compare religion with science. One makes sense and one makes total nonsense.
Science is a tool, as it has a solid foundation. It is verifiable and consistent. Most religions are based on a number of lies called theology. They are not verifiable. As a follower, you are forced to accept them.

“Don’t you feel love when you see a baby ? Don’t you feel sad when your friend is sad ? Don’t you feel your blood boiling when you see injustice ?”

…………and what next? you tell yourself that…”cool down man,its none of your business”..then u will move on with your own business
***************
“Is it because you believe in god ? Is it not possible to have all these feelings with out any divine intervention ?”
***************
Yes,it is possible to have all this feelings without any religion or God…i think religion are supposed to be in the next step
see,the problem is now religion are like any other institution run by people like you and me..common human beings..they have their own view points and they ll try to super impose these into religion..so i’d say people should be vigilant
why we are going to a school or college when there is opportunity to do graduation os off campus students??bcos it make some difference in life…some happiness.some order in life..some timetable(even if we dont care abt it)…some good moments..etc..etc…like that religion and religious activates gives some order in our life..happiness..love etc
so..its upto each individual..how they see into it and interpret things
anyway we all are a part of some religion simply bcos of our parents belong to that particular religion..and its a social necessity to have a religion..while filling an application for admission in school, college or for a job there is always a column for religion .even if u dont believe in it u ll write ur parents religion there

“Will mans moral values deteriorate if there are no religions and religious rules ?”
**************
Man’s moral value is just like a showpieces in our showcase..it wont deteriorate without religion but such a moral value makes absolutely no sense if it remains only a feeling of blood boiling or something..its only the 1st step ie,thoughts…next step is action..religion are to be in that level

what happened to forgiveness??
there is a prayer that we use to pray every day
” forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sinned against us” sometimes i feel guilty while saying this…
and where is true love now???
actually ppl hav became so selfish..

But all these good human qualities are now claimed by religions. Do we need some religious organization or super natural power to tell us what’s right and what’s wrong ? Isn’t it something that’s built into our social genes.

…yeah we know wat is right and wrong…
But we don’t know what to do next(or we dont dare to take the next step)…..we just move on after thinking abt all this for a while…….

Now, lemme ask u this question? How many of us LIVE the life by the bible? I’m forced to assume not many unless proven otherwise…
I’m a Hindu by religion but by the values I follow, I’m a good guy..Blindly following something is NOT acceptable to me… I for one do take a lot of courage and wit from the religious books but I use them at my own discretion…Humanity comes first…Indeed, these writings give u a lot of courage to face life but I’m forced to bring out unwanted parts like the caste system…which are best left out..
IMHO, its good to be religious till a reasonable age…it gives you a good direction but beyond that I feel one should use one’s own discretion and values… I’m more tempted to follow works like ‘The Art of War’ and ‘The Book of Five rings’ (Samurai code) rather than completely, blindly follow religious work…My point here is that you should be able to separate the wheat from the chaff…

Another thing is that, the values, love etc comes into you from the environment that you grew up in. It could be the society, school or religion.
In the absence of any of these or in the presence of any of these pouring venom into the minds, the outcome could be far different.
I guess a human being is pretty malleable. It has the capacity of virtue as well as vice.

Religion seem to be well on course to bring about the end of the world, if you ask me.
Religion do help in instilling and culturing moral and ethical values in kids, all right. But it is not quintessential that you believe in X, Y or Z Gods to pick up the fine qualities of life.

You said it…Much of it has to come from within and the people you care about and love….and of course, lots of it also come from our own experiences in life…
Domestic avalanche was correct when he told me that he disagrees with the statement ‘Religion is the only dope of humanity’… He gave me quite a few other dopes as well
