    Intolerance, Hypocrisy and Religions

Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

In UK the British Humanist Association started a campaign that says “There’s probably no God, Now stop worrying and and start enjoying your life”. This campaign was met with a lot of protest from various religious groups, especially the hard core Christians.

    There is probably no god

    There is probably no god

The major arguments against the campaign follows.

    • The wording is offensive to religious people
    • The advert is misleading because you cannot prove there probably isn’t a God
    • The adverts cannot be held as opinion because nobody is attributed to them

What do you think about these arguments.

Is there any validity in these arguments ?

Is it a crime to offend people, How does this campaign offend people ?

Plain and simple example of religious intolerance and hypocrisy.

    1. You know Kenney, isn’t it funny how religion gets granted certain extensions to the principle of Freedom of expression, while the same fundmanetal freedom comes severely under attack when a voice that is rationally critical of religion, makes itself heard.

Govts are as guilty as ever of propogating this inequality. Many a govt simply quails under the ‘moral outrage’ from the junta. Votes are ultimately what matter to them, despite the obvious constitutional violation.

An extraterrestrial would conclude that Freedom to practice religion has some unstated precedence over the Freedom NOT to practice religion(both of which are granted by the US constitution at least)

All Abrahamaic religions have actively encouraged racism, xenophobia, and in the extreme genocide in the name of the

Isn’t that immoral? or does morality have exceptions too? *BUZZ* Hypocrisy alert!

In case someone is going to quote the New testament, a Bible scholar will tell you that ‘Love your neighbour’ means exactly that. ONLY love your neighbour(as long as they are jews or your own tribe).
      BolloXXX!

I conclude with a quote from Seneca the younger:
“Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.”

      No kidding? :p

    2. Religion is a place where logic ceases to work. We cannot correct a religious person without offending him. Its his birth right to be offended.

      Religious institutions define – Hypocrisy

    3. Should we really be bothered about some barking dog?
For God’s sake they have not come banging on your door and asking you to stop praying.
Just an ad by someone. Does it require so much attention? I’m really not sure. But it seems to have worked for them as there’s nothing caled negative publicity.

Haha aa ..i feel like laughing , even atheist are doughty about existence of god.The use of the term probably rather if they belive that there is no god. They should have corrected it to “There is no god … .”

Let they tell wht ever they want , holy book mentions wht wld be their fate finnaly ,so why bother unless they start pinging … that does matter .

    5. theres some force in this universe that’s natural! As long as you can’t control the dawn and dusk you have to follow this force! this universal force can b considered as god or wat ever it is! Your “logic” doesn’t seems to give you much logic when you speak about atheism! Listen to your heart and do what your heart says right! “logic” has nothing to do with it!

    6. wow… looks like even this post has pissed of a few. Now I realize the power of fear that these religions have injected into our minds.

Now this post is not about god exists or not. Its about the freedom of someone who thinks that god does not exist to advertise his thought.

    8. considering the fact that most of the worlds greatest problems including terrorism is closely linked to religions and their intolerant nature…. yea we should be bothered.

    10. Religions are intolerant. That is something to be bothered about. If you dont go their way they will create a mess out of that. They are powerful and no normal human being can fight them.

Organised religion is entering every walk of our life. The religious tension that exists in the country is the best example of that.

    11. Religions are as much powerful as we want them to be. If we are fanatics, religion is very powerful.
I do belive in God and I do pray from time to time. But that doesn’t mean that I do whatever the religious biggies say. For me, whatever they say is rubbish. I have my own perspective of religion, I DON’T care what they say….
      NOM to anyone here…

    12. if thats the case, then atheists should start protesting infront of all the temples/mosques/churches as they all carry adverts/banners which are ‘offensive’ to atheists or non-religious people….
[well, majority atheists dont give a hoot what religions say, but just for argument sake:)]

why is it always the theists whose ‘sentiments’ get hurt???what exactly are those ‘religious sentiments’? only ‘God’ knows..!!!

    13. I saw this ad in the papers.. And I do agree, the guys who put out this ad got what they wanted.. Publicity.. I’m sure they would’ve expected nothing less from the ‘opposition’

Though, it IS true, if these religious pricks can wake me up in the morning at 5 with their loudspeakers, celebrate festivals on the eve of my board exams and block all the roads in the name of some function when I needed to get to a hospital, then surely they must be able to put up with something that’s comparitively insignificant as this !!

If you do believe in God, then I’m sure you’ve also realised that you don’t need God Men to get there, or loudspeakers at dawn to make him hear..

They say Man has stopped biological evolution and started cultural evolution.. Think religion was the point in human history when cultural evolution also came to a stop.. Think we’re behind by almost a couple of centuries of progress because of what they’ve done.. Time to move on perhaps ?

    14. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD…

They are our mind’s eye (yes or no?). How can you believe a thing, which you have never seen? I do believe that parents are actually god. They are the one to whom you can touch, feel, converse and be keen on. They are the One who are answerable for our wellbeing, who teach us good manners and teach us to live in this world. I do not think that God comes in the form of a man .Salvation can be reached either through the path of the Sikh Religion or through any other religion including Christianity. Why do we pray to god, because we think that they are the one who make our dream come true? However, please see that when you pray for any thing, god do not come to your home and say here is the thing that you want (but they should, if they are present). It is right to believe that you, yourself a god because you are physically responsible how you make your life pleasant! (Not the god)If you think, it is not right to believe that you are not god then consider that your parents are god… Well I am not alone who do not believe in God……….
