Madras High Court has granted bail to 29 students who were involved in the violent incident that occurred on Nov 12 at Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Channai. Please watch two groups of students, divided on caste lines, attacking each other, unmindful of the full media presence. Note that the Police is not doing anything to stop the violence.
Now Let me ask three questions.
1) I have studied at a government college with plenty of fights and skirmishes, but this violence is blood curdling. Remember, these are students, and how can they tear each other apart like animals?
2) Why is the police standing by without really attempting to stop the violence. If they were outnumbered, they should call for back up.
3) These are the individuals who are going to be the future lawyers and justices. Should we just kiss goodby to any hope that we have on Indian judiciary?
4) “The petitioners (students) are directed to go to any public library and read good books on every Saturday and Sunday for two hours, for a period of four weeks,” Justice T Sudanthiram said. They shall submit a report about what they had read during the period, he added. Is it just me or is there anyone out there who thinks that reading some good books at a public library is going to do any good to them?

Qunitessential model of education.
I read the background story of the incident.

I am feeling ashamed of being a human being.

Students and student unions enjoy too much freedom in this country. A university is build to teach and learn and not to play politics.
Police must have the right to enter every place on this country, let it be a campus, or place of worship at anytime of the day and search.

I watched the video some weeks ago.
I will never be able to forget it.
The court verdict is a proof that India is the most corrupt state in the world.
If I were to give a decision, I would give a life sentence for ALL of those involved, including the policemen watching.

they are not students, they are terrorists !!!

@Dinu,
I agree. Terrorism of all forms may arise out of reasonable causes. But the cause don’t justify those actions.

Well – I dont know what to say…It is high time some one filed a case against politics inside educational institutions…this is not the first incident – there have been quite a lot of incidents. By banning politics – I meant all outside interference where by the regional and national political parties get involved and corrupt this students by giving them political cover and money for all this kind of activities – for they ability to become a mob and attack anything and everything…Educational institutions should only be affiliated to other educational institutions and other non-profit organizations from which the students can be expected to learn and do some service to humanity.
Read the below article

everyone of those students and the police men who were watching should be prosecuted. The judge who gave the sentence of sitting in a library for 2 weeks also should be sent to jail for making a mockery of our law! People should realize that there will be consequences to their actions and should not be able to get away with it…

Pathetic and unfortunate.
But, do we need to give these negativity and horribleness more publicity and penetration by publicising/spreading it ?
Seriously, no offence meant

@Aravind
Do you want to live knowing the truth of in a illusion that the world is a safe place until this happens to you or your loved ones ?

@ aravind
I think the you have mis-interrupted this post – not only does it bring awareness of the truth to us – but also – it helps us people form an opinion on such matter and try and fight it the next time we have a chance…
Like – if I get a chance to become the chief minister or the chancellor of the university – I would make sure such things are avoided and nip such things in the bud itself – and If I was a judge – I would make sure that not only are the students punished severely – the policemen who were just watching also are punished. And if I dont become any of the above – I will teach my children that this is not the way to behave….

Horrifying!
Even though my college’s a govt. college, it’s relatively peaceful. But this is SAD!
Take a survey of all such incidents throughout the state and you’ll see a steady increase in gargantuan proportions!

Terrible ! No hope to this country. Never.

Very sad to see that Practitioners of LAW and Protectors of law are protected by LAW itself, even when such ridiculous incidents happen. I totally agree with Tinu, this is never gonna change…
Comment by Vasanth E.B. — March 22, 2009 @ 8:41 am
Its very sad such things happen. And afaik, this happens virtually in EVERY college – pvt or govt. The difference is that in a govt college no one really cares if it happens in their campus and the principal might not even call the police but in a pvt college they take strict action against the students only because their reputation will be at stake if they don’t. pathetic.

This was a glimpse of an unhumanized society. It is unfortunate, that here one is not even given the basic right of dignity; and these people will grow up to grant rights to the people?
Shame on such animals who have taken the guise of human bodies.
It must be remembered by all students, that students activism doesn’t mean violence.
Comment by June Nandy — March 29, 2009 @ 11:27 am
Kenny, dont you think you should’ve displayed a ‘strong violance video’ or something like that in the beginning? Please add it, the video has sickened me, and I had to give out to my wife not to look at it.
This is extreme… :X

That’s what happens when physical abuse is used for discipline by parents and authorities.
Ban physical discipline by parents and schools and things would improve as a whole. Less trauma and frustration (especially for false discipline) and the better it is for all.
