As we have always been targeted by the terrorists since Independence, here is another tragic incident of horrible, horrible slaying of scores of innocent men and women. The final numbers are yet to be known, but there is no explanation or rationalization that can justify the carnage.
We also do not know who is behind this even though a phony group named Deccan Mujahidin has taken responsibility- or claimed credit, I should say. By the sophistication of the coordination, it is clear that whoever has done it had plenty of help from established terrorist organizations. One main purveyor of these activities that comes to mind is Lushker-e-Toiba or Jaish-e-Muhammed who could well be behind this massacre.
There has been massive planning going on for this. The angle of their attack has been unique. They have targeted Victoria Terminal so as to make the number of causalities high and make it a big incident. They have also made sure to attack Taj and Oberoi hotels and primarily targeted the American and British citizens. This made sure that this attack was carried and discussed far and wide. I should say they were successful in that. All the main news channels in the US has been continuously covering only the Mumbai terror attack story from the moment it happened. This kind of coverage is unprecedented.
One thing that the government cannot afford to do is not to take any quick and effective action. If LeT or JeM which operates from Pakistan is proved to be behind this, the government should not waste any time to finally put a stop to their operation. There are two ways this can be done. I am not advocating for military action as the first course of action. However, the government should use all the diplomatic pressure and even use the US to force Pakistani government to take out the terrorist camps within Pakistani border.
Also, Terrorism is growing at a rapid pace and is even spreading to areas that were not usually prone to Jihadi influence. Organizations like SIMI had always worked with Lashkar and Jaish in the past and there should not be any hesitation to round up any suspect who could well be planning the next attack. We have seen a few people from Kerala who were part of Terrorism. Even the state government has the duty to explore and investigate organizations like NDF and make them either purge unwanted elements from their ranks and come clean or be ready to face banning.
There is not much time we can waste.

kenney you have got it all wrong….. bro…….
Its not deccan mujahidden or LET or JEM who is behind all this….. The real culprit was pointed out by our honourable BJP spokesperson Sushma Swaraj after the Jaipur blasts itself…..
Its…………… Manmohan Singh……. hahaahahhaaa……. (yaa a former minister was stupid enough to say that….. )
I believe our National political masterminds are now busy discussing how to convert this incident into ‘political mileage’
We will be seeing some real below the belt political statements coming out in the coming days.
WELCOME TO iNDIA…..

@Robin…
I agree… it is not time to have any partisan fights and blaming and name calling. It is an attack against the country and more specifically to the values of democracy and freedom.
All Indians should be united at this moment. We cannot afford to do otherwise.

@Arvind,
Vinu’s flickr gallery was used by CNN, MSNBC and all other news networks in the US as well and they were showing the link to it as well.
The good thing he did was that he posted the images within minutes and people were able to see a few images and take in the devastation.

The international aspect of the attack has been a big success.
It is almost 24 hours and all the news channels here (US) are covering only this story non-stop.
I could assume that the same is happening in UK and other countries as well.

The political bull shit has already started.. The blame game, ‘you dint do that, but i did when i was in office’ and all that..
The people who died, and the cops who risked their necks will be forgotten soon..
No small blame on the media..
What happened to responsible journalism?
It’s just ‘marketable journalism’ these days…

I for one believe India’s now had its ‘Munich’ moment, although the tactical part of it has been very good so far. But to think of it in larger terms, I don’t think RAW would ever be as good as MOSSAD or the CIA or the Chinese intel for that reason. This is nothing new. Earlier in the 90s, it was like if you go to Kashmir, you meet terror and terrorists but now, they visit you at home. Quite honestly, I don’t see any difference between living in any part of India and Kashmir well, except for maybe marginally higher risks… Of course, here in Chennai, we are all protected by Rajini

I was checking out NDTV’s website and came across two particularly interesting write-ups:
1. This one’s a basic rule missed by our tactical units, but rightly pointed out by the Israelis.

2. Navy has started blaming the Somali pirates now!!! YEss…you read that right!!! Those guys!!! Read more:

@Ash, you are right. The national security should primarily come from Intelligence.
This is an eye opener to reform RAW to help avoid such debacles like these.

It was very sad to see this happen time and again. Hope our politicians atleast learn from this terrible tragedy and come up with more stringent laws and tighten the security.
