Ability to Communicate – Human Supremacy

Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

From among the big and small animals on this earth, how did man become most powerful and most intelligent ? For the time being lets forget the intelligent design nonsense. From being one among the wild animals how did we evolve into an organized society. How did we progress so much when compared to the other animals.

I once saw a very interesting documentary in one of the science channels. A Scientist wanted to figure out why Chimpanzees did not evolve like human beings, even though they have comparable brain capacity as humans. He took a great risk and let a new born Chimpanzee to grow with his own new born child.

Upto 2 years of age, both showed similar intellectual growth. In most cases the Chimpanzee kid was better than the human kid. But when they reached 2 years of age the human kid started speaking different words, but the Chimpanzee was stuck with his very limited vocabulary. From then onwards the gap began to widen.

Finally the scientist concluded that mans ability to make different sounds and distinguish between them is the core of our progress. This ability has resulted us to speak and convey ideas. Other animals can only communicate very basic stuff. But we are capable of communicating abstract ideas.

    1. There is a fantastic talk on the subject at ted.com

Wild Bonobo’s were invited to make themselves at home in the play space of the lab. After some time, their learned to read, to write, to light fires, and to play Pac Man. Amazing.

    2. I remember the same thing on discovery or something. Unfortunatly with the good things came bad things like religion, fanatism, and other too abstract thoughts!
