Understanding our own emotions is the most powerful method to controlling yourselves. Emotions control most of our decisions and if we can control our emotions, we can control our involuntary decision making process (impulsive actions). It might sound simple, but understanding needs knowledge of emotions, its causes and likely reactions and the impact of the reactions on others.
Here is a simple example. Most of us will be uncomfortable if our girl friend is seen having a nice conversation with someone else and particularly is she seems to enjoy it. Our typical reaction would be to talk to her about it and ask her to stop. Really stupid ones will interfere then and there and will make himself look awkward. All of this exposes the insecurity feeling and will have a bad impression on the relationship.
But if we are aware of such a relationship problem, we can easily detect it slowly forming inside ourselves, and consciously avoid a possibly damaging impulsive reaction. The same is true for all sorts of emotions. Love, hatred, jealousy, anger, insecurity, excitement, pride etc. This technique is very helpful to deal with the negative emotions.
I am of the opinion that basics of human psychology should be taught in schools. Students should be presented with case studies of real life situations that they might encounter with, in the future and ways to deal with them. This might help our future generation and society a lot.
You become God when you understand yourselves fully.

Tell me how to teach some one about emotions??
To tell them what emotions are is ok, but to react and control is not a lesson. A weak heart is always a weak heart where as a strong can be weak as well as strong.
The emotions are colorless, so how can you teach a colorless thing?? But reactions are colorful.

If you can teach someone about GOD, then emotions are a piece of cake.

Noooo.. never let any one mix god and emotions. Coz god is a source, emotions are not. Programattically saying
God is GET
Emotions are SET

Are you saying that we cant teach school students about various human emotions, their causes and ways to deal with them ?
Comment by Kenney — October 25, 2008 @ 5:41 pm
A school kid can be taught what emotions are, but not to tackle them at their young stage. Because, a human by himself is a learner, to know what emotions are they should know what emotions are. Theoretical learning will not help their emotions to any end but instead will ruin their emotions and life ahead, but a kid can be taught what good manners are.

How can we teach emotions?? They should be experianced !!
How can you explain in words about emotions?? How can you write it??
If I fall in LOVE with a girl, me knows whats happening inside my mind but to explain it in words is too difficult & the other one who hears the explanation wont understand it through words!
If some one wanna know whats this emotion “love” is he has to experiance it!! No other way!
To join with kenney & SAF, I will say, its so good if one can teach
“what good manners are”
“How to differentiate between right & wrong?”
“How to develop a helping & caring attitude – also get mutual benefits etc” @ the schools!

I said, we can teach behavioral psychology, not emotions. It deals with how people react to various situations. Prior knowledge typical situations can prevent spontaneous reactions, which are often not the best reactions.
