This post is a continuation of my earlier post IEEE Projects and Poor Engineering Students. Please go through that post to understand the background of this post.
The hot shot lecturer makes a new rule. He decides that no student will be allowed to sit in the class who has not got a project synopsis approved by him before next Monday. Frantic students got hold of an IEEE login from somewhere and downloaded many projects and submitted to him. Even from those IEEE projects many got rejected.
My cousin got approval after submitting 20 IEEE projects. She send me the document for the one she got approval for. The lecturer even commented that its a very simple project and there is nothing much to do in it. Still he approved the project cos of sympathy for her, I believe.
Now I opened the document and read the synopsis and my head started spinning. Complex matrix operations, Cosine transformations, complex data compressions algorithms, and on top of all that a network protocol implementation. And guess what, its a combined project from Berkeley, MIT and Harvard.
My poor cousin, she is a brilliant student and is very keen to learn new things. But this is too much. She wont even get enough time to learn the mathematics involved in the project.
Read some of my posts about finalĀ year projects.

I will call this pure bullshit .. from the nature of the lecture i feel that this is happening in a selffinancing college .. if i was in her place i would hav asked the teacher to explain wht was actually wrong in my previous abstracts .. and explain in detail . and justfy that wht she is approaching is an ieee project and she needs clear understand of wht ws wrong in other abstracts ., thank god she got it approved .. “I really hate this lecture and their approach ..no matter whatever be the advantage doing ieee project its the creativty of the the NXG engineers that they are killing .. i wonder how ieee got their projects “

@Althaf
Unfortunately its not a self financing college.
The type of institution makes no difference. Its the perception of the staff that makes all the difference. Also we Indians have this huge ego that we are the best, which is not really true.

My cousin had a similar situation in his final year MCA. He got a project from Port Trust to develop a small help desk sw for logging calls. It was rejected by the lecturers as, some one else was doing it already (what the hell - even if the concept is the same - the solution does not have to be the same). He was so frustrated - as he was already half way through it that he dropped everything and went and bought a project and submitted it…
IEEE is a world renowned Institution that has been a pioneers in the development of lot of different standards (Like Cisco & IBM). There is nothing wrong with a lecturer expecting his students to be of that level - but then he himself should be in a position where he can guide the students to do the project.
More than just doing another copy cat project - I would rather encourage the students to use these ideas and develop their own concepts and solutions. It is a pity that our educational system does not allow for students to think…
