You have still not replied to the query of a school girl…May be this organisation as you call it is doing things for the sake of sheer publicity…but are’nt they at least doing it..?

I would like to describe an event I will never forget. I once had to take a city bus on a 45min ride across a metro city. I was with a female friend of mine and this bus was crowded. We both got seats and were comfortable. About 10min after we started, a young woman boarded the bus and stood next to my seat. She would have been in her early 20′s, wore a very old faded salwar suit and boarded the bus near a factory so I assume she worked there and from the look on her face, I’m sure she worked hard to make ends meet. She was short and frail and was struggling to stand because she couldn’t reach the handle on top. I felt bad for her and offered my seat.

Within minutes another old man boarded the bus, he was someone who looked like he was in his 50′s and carried a shoulder sling bag that looked heavy.

He came and stood next to me, and asked if he can lean on the seats handle, the seat which I had offered to that girl. Looking at his age and weight of the bag I gave way and moved a little further. A little while later when i turned to talk to my friend who was next to the girl, I saw this horrified look on that girls face. She looked like she wanted to burst out crying but couldn’t. I looked closer and saw the old man very awkwardly leaning on the seat, oblivious of me or anything around. I went closer and saw his hand hidden behind the bag, grabbing this woman’s chest. I very politely asked him to step back because I want to stand there, he refused and had the guts to still keep his hand on her.

I gently pushed him away and not to mention got into a brawl. When I explained to everyone in the bus, most of them factory workers, they all refused to believe me just because of the mans age and the fact that he was better dressed than that poor girl. When i asked the girl to speak she refused to speak and said it was alright.

That old man got off the bus at few stops later, and many followed him and the bus was then almost empty. I saw the girl cry and asked her why she didn’t speak up. She explained that she travels this route every day, and has been for the past 3 or 4 years. These are the same people she sees everyday, and all the women who travel with her have had same experiences almost everyday. They have tried making noise and did it for sometime but people just ignored them and some even laughed. So they stopped complaining and went to work everyday with these men grabbing every opportunity to humiliate them in those crowded buses.

I know this might not mean anything to you, but what if that girl I spoke to that night was by some chance your sister, wife or daughter who decided to stop complaining and never even told you? Would you still have the same opinion you so proudly expressed here? I hope not!

I highly doubt if you even understand what EVE TEASING means. Having been a victim of that myself (lemme tell you it’s the worst in Kerala), I do know the feeling of being victimized. Try to research some more before you plunder out ur words like this. Seek out victims’ views who reside in the NCR – Delhi, Gurgaon, etc – they will tell you hair-raising stories where most of them lead to physical abuse – groping private parts, pulling clothes out and worse! (Lemme not even GO into that)

So, my dear BLOGGER, I do respect ur rights to view ur opinions – as long as u don’t slap them on our faces and proclaim to the world that ‘women seek attention’.

Hope one day, you stand to witness the indecency of eve-teasing being cast upon a woman in ur life. And hope you RE-WRITE your blog from the VICTIM’s point of view
