Kerala Police – On Top of Technology or Stupidity

Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

The news report claims that the HiTech Crime Enquiry Cell of Kerala Police has technology to trace all the mobile phones and devices through which a video has propagated by analysing the video. I wonder what sort of technology allows to trace all of that. Being a Bluetooth expert myself, I have no idea how to achieve this.

Is this something added by the reporter or a fear game by the police ?

    1. Why Doubt?
      Indeed a fear game !!!

I’m no BT expert myself, but, I’m damn sure that,There’s no way the origin of the video could be traced out by analysing the video itself.

    3. common public have no idea of how this works and will be scared to do anything.

It is high time to legalize sending, selling and exchanging porn.

(As long as the artists performed it with consensus and they are not minors, that is.)

    4. No chance of tracing it. Police making a stupid statement! They might have forgotten about the IT population of Kerala :)

    5. The local reporter is another culprit. They try to spread the FUD. Look at this.

    6. Please clarify me. Is there any thing other than the SMS or MMS that can be excavated about our mobile trascations?? If so how insecure is it to check the balances? Lets call police or their crime cell the next key to online account threat. :-(

Its not only Mafia that is a media fav in Kerala, there is Lobby.
There 2 words are replaced by one another in many cases.
Everyone is a mafia: Sandalwood mafia,Hotel Mafia, Bus Mafia, and i-dunno-what-all mafia!

    15. OMFG! This is hilarious and gross from the part of KP. It is not simply fair to mislead the public, someone should sue the dude. Or better, try to create a video and send it across to the public and ask police to catch the copyright violators with this nsippet of news.

    16. @Nikhil…

    17. oh come on, you guys are unnecessarily creating a furore…after years of reading about the way KP operates, this one is pretty easy to decipher.. once they track the clip on a phone, lock up mardanam starts with kunichu nirthi idi, uruttal etc… he will give you the name of the guy he got it from, and the people who he’s passed it on to.. repeat process with all these people, and so on, till you reach the srishtikarthavu (creator, not religion pls)… allathe, don’t worry about cutting edge tech..
as suresh gopi would say, athu manassilakkan police budhi onnum venda, pattashappukarante….. ;)

    20. Well I am not very sure about Kerala Police – But generally speaking about cellular networks – Once you have access to the network – it is possible to monitor all the voice and data lines that leads up to your cell phone.

It is even possible to remotely activate the microphone on your cell-phone and listen to you -without you even knowing.

I am sure all Cell Phone networks and landline networks have to provide such inter connectivity to the Law Enforcement agencies – so that they can monitor the so called terrorist…(also called line tapping)

And as for tracing where a the actual data originated – there is no way of saying – as the file itself does not contain such information.

But when you are talking of relaying such files thru a network – there are ways to track it, as every time there is a communication between two entities in the network – Log files are created automatically will full details of the communication.

May be the statement from KP is a little over hyped/wrong but they are watching you…. ;)
