Today I read a news report that some engineer was arrested for having started a community that says something against Maratha Sivaji. After all who is Sivaji ? Isnt he just another king who tried to protect his kingdom ? How did he become a national hero ?
In Kerala someone else was arrested for starting a community “I hate Sindhu Joy”. The lady happened to be a (famous/notorious) student leader. Something similar happened to the person who started “I hate Sonia Gandhi” community also.
Is it illegal to hate someone ? Whats wrong in starting hate communities. If I don’t like someone, cant I just openly say that I hate that person. If we are to prosecute the hate community owners there will be thousands of them cos every celebrity will have a hate community.
Cos I am an Indian citizen, am I entitled to respect the so called national leaders and national symbols. What if I think Indira Gandhi was a tyrant ? What If I think of Advani as the next Hitler ? What If I think Prathibha Patel is an idiot and not fit to be the Indian President ?
Dosent freedom mean I have the freedom to hate anyone I like and express it also ? Which Indian law states that I shouldn’t form an Anti xxxxxxx group.

I dont think anyone can be arrested for starting hate communities..the Indian constitution has clearly granted “The right to speech and expression” .So unless you say something bad about another person you have the fundamental right to say you hate someone.Ask the people to get in touch with a lawyer and he should be able to claim his rights.
India is also a sovereign;socialist;secular;democratic republic. So it is actually wrong to say we must remove the chapters that comments on cross religious marriages and atheism in text books. For in a secular country it is the right of every citizen to know that he can marry any person irrespective of his/her relegion and ofcourse he can be an atheist! (a similar issue that i found worthy to cite )

Kenney,
There is a thin line between expressing one’s dislike and bad mouthing someone.
I can hate anyone, from a National leader to a law abiding non vandalizing, 30+, unemployable, “veetil choriyum kuthiyirikkunna” student union leader.
But, I can’t malign somebody’s reputation as that can invite legal action against me.
Leave the so called leaders, even you can sue me if I start writing hate posts on you.And you would.
Satire is different(like Mallu channels show on our politicians);maligning/muckraking an individual’s reputation is different.

I don’t think hating anyone is a crime, moreover we have to file sue against corporates those who share privacy information to anyone.
I dont think you can do that Kenny.
You can hate someone, no problem, but you cant be propogating that in public. Thats defamation of cahracter, and is considered a serious enough crime. No constitution in the world gives you right for doing that. There is a difference when you say ”I hate xxx” and when you write ’some gossips about the same xxx
If you see the ”i hate xxx” communities in those social forums, you can easily see why they are arrested. Jeez, such language you wont even come across in marketplaces.. Thats abuse, plain and straightforward, and you cant get away with it..
You know Kenny, I’ve had the exact same thought every time some silly story appears about some frivolous Orkut hate community or the other that gets taken down by order of Central Govt. I mean WTF…
Freedom of expression is a guaranteed right.
Its only when you make incorrect damaging statements about a person that it becomes illegal(slander/libel under constitution)
Until then, any such reactionary action from the govt/politically motivated groups are just a way of bullying the public. Morons, all of them; including the public who have no clue what constitutes a legally voiced opinion.
I dislike somebody. I will say it out loud. What are you going to do? Stare me into submission?
In retrospect, I think the legal framework in India holds the content provider/hoster responsible for any potentially libellous matter being posted on their publishing system. Even Giants like Google would rather not handle the Bad PR from such an allegation.
(its not as if they already aren’t getting enough BULLSHIT from the likes of MM/Vanitha/Old media outlets)
Hence, the moral of the story is….
Buy a VPS run by smart people in the US who won’t cave into such bullying and host your blog on it. :p
Who’s going to stop you Kenny? Not me. Attaboy.
Kenney,
Leave hate. Voicing one’s opinions bring in legal action.
Read what happened in this case.

Gosh that reminds me I have an “I hate Indian cricket team” community in orkut
Jokes aside I think the guy was arrested (sonia case) for slander and he did not form the community. The person who formed the community was not messed with as he did not do anything wrong.. I don’t know about other cases u mentioned
For every action there will be an opposite and equal reaction.
