I had always thought of Sree Narayana Guru as a local leader and someone who belonged only to the Ezhavas. Atleast that was the image I was supposed to have about him by the SNDP and its leaders. But it all changed when I met with R Sukumar who is now making a movie about Sree Narayana Guru.
We always tend to underestimate anyone who is close to us. We thing of Nelson Mandela as a great person. Gandhiji gave us independence. Martin Luther King is a legend. But I never knew that this local guru, whose followers I grew up with, is a man who has more impact on the life that I live now than any other leader.
Its really sad to see this great person locked in a mirror cage, dragged into every political controversy, used to divide the very own people he fought for and used as a symbol of something he preached to abolish.
After having a 2 hour chat with the R Sukumar, the director of YugaPurushan, all my views about the guru and the SNDP changed forever. The man has been doing research for the last 15 years for this movie with total dedication, just for this movie. I can now say with total conviction that this man knows more about the guru than any other historian or so called SNDP leaders.
The movie which is expected to start shooting by the end of this year will tell an insiring tale of how this one person created history and changed the lives of million forever. The entire preproduction work for the movie is complete with a storyboard that consists of over 2000 hand drawn images.
Lets wait for the movie….

The above is a forwarded email that I got a few days ago. For my non Malayalam readers, a transalation/adaptation can be found here.
Unnikuttan ask his grandfather, who is reading the newspaper and sipping a cup of tea.
“Grandpa, What is this nuclear deal”
Grandpa replies
“I am not very sure son, but I can say one thing for sure, its something that will benefit our country. “
Unnikuttan asks in doubtful tone
“How can you be sure”
Grandpa replies
“All the left parties are against the deal. So I am sure that Its somehting beneficial to the country.”

Zeitgeist - The Movie
If you have trouble viewing the video, Download it from here.
The video has 3 parts.
Part 1 is about Christianity and it even questions the existence of Jesus Chirst as a historical figure. I have heard many conspiracies and allegations about Christian church, but something that questions even the existence of Jesus Christ is very new.
Part 2 is deals with 911 attacks. According to the video it was a planned activity executed by the some US financial power houses, and the Bush family is one of them. The evidences that they present are very convincing and there is reason to believe that some foul play has happened.
Part 3 is the most interesting and alleges that the world is being controlled by a few international bankers, and all our leaders are mere pawns in their hands. The story starts from American freedom struggle. The video even suggests that there is no law in the US that makes a citizen liable to pay income tax.
This is a must watch video. Please watch and come back and post your comments. I want to know how much of truth is there in this video. It is really scaring !!!!!!

July 20th, 2008 — Education
Today our high court produced a verdict supporting the dismissal of a college student. I find the whole issue a bit intimidating as well as amusing. The girl was dismissed because she did a solo protest with a placard in front of the principals office.
I am not sure whether commenting about this qualifies as contempt of court, so here is the disclaimer. - “I totally respect the court and the judges and I have no intention to disrespect them”.
Can someone be dismissed from an educational institution just because he/she protested against something ?
Are we trying to make our institutions some sort of jail ? Ban the internet, ban the mobile phone, ban this… ban that….. ban ban ban….. where are we going with such restrictions ?
In my college there was a time when there was ‘0′ law and order. Seniors would come and beat you up for no reason, take away all your money and when you raise a complaint, the college authorities would come forward to save the “future” of the offenders. There were many incidents where students fought among themselves using stones and iron rods and many injured. But no action was taken.
News reports say that - “The Bench repeatedly asked Indulekha whether she was willing to express regret for whatever had happened in the college. The Bench said the attitude of the appellant right from the beginning of her so called struggle till it culminated in the disciplinary action against her, had been “one of defiance, to say the least.”
Can we ever ask Gandhiji to express regret for his protests against the British ? Or is it because she is a single student who can be pushed around by anyone ? The use of the term “Defiance” confirms it. Does this dismissal and court verdict suggest that majority can do anything and get away with it ? Will the same college ban every student who goes on a strike and will the same court support it too?
Attention SFI, KSU and ABVP. Your future seems to be bleak.
