The recent introduction of many FM stations in Trivandrum has really affected the way how people in Trivandrum “waste their time”. So if you are coming to town, here is a list of stations to “waste you time” on.

Well Kennyji, Fms are not a waste of time. Its really one of the most hottest sort of entertainment especially on roads, to pass of the time…… But a city like Trivandrum or Kochi has not yet geared up for the VERY BIG NESSECARY for FM…….
I daily experience the need of FM while here in Dubai….. Its because, daily I spend around 4 to 5 hours simply on road, due to traffic jams and snail-kind movements of cars on road in highly congested city like Dubai……….. I often feel weird and feels into a destructive mood….. Its because of various FMs, I feel a big relief to all negative thoughts, as MUSIC Therapy is a really soothing experience………
Such kind of blocks/traffic jams are not there in our cities like Thiruvanthapuram or Kochi…… However, as our state is progressing like our neighbours, very soon a Banglore model of Kochi shall repeat…. Then in such circumstances, FM will be very vital.
Do you know Kenneyji, Here in dubai, People on roads are very keen to FMs to have traffic alerts…. Incase of any blocks or jams or accidents in any particular area, some people caught up in those blocks, normally SMS the message to the FM stations, and they broadcast it live on air, helping many others to divert traffic movements avoiding that area……. The Police dept is encouraging people to hear FMs, to avoid such kind of large scale jams/accidents………
Moreover, FMs has a very democractic face in this city…. I can say this, because currently I am associated with radio industry here…… People have access to television only at limited times, when they are in homes or some leisure areas…….. However radio is the only source to keep aware around the world in all places, being at work or site or office or driving etc……. Here i have seen in many construction sites, labourers do keep their earphones plugged to either mobile or fm recevier to hear music, which is a major relief to their hardcore labour…….. Such trends will slowly creep into our society……..
I must say, our FMs should be reformed to more of social benefit in nature, rather than being music alone…… I don’t mean any kind of social charity etc for radio….. It should dedicate major time slots for lifestyle, news, information, health.cookery etc, rather than focusing completely on music……. It will be then a major boost to the radio culture…. I surely believe, one next big boom in our culture will be that of RADIO CULTURE

There used to be a another low powered station around 90.2 from the DC school of Media and Business from Kinfra park. Now I don’t hear it.
A couple of Tamil stations are also heard if you tune carefully. If you can install a good dipole or quad, far away stations are heard. See http://brainstorms.in/?p=22 for a description.
I have seen boosters specifically designed for FM band in hamfests. I don’t know if they are still available commercially.
Short wave and FM DXing are worth trying on a week end.
