This is the new Maruti Swift Dzire, the Sedan version of the Swift.
Initially I was not impressed with the looks. But after I saw a few Swift Dzires on the road, I started to like the looks. It stands out in the crowd. Since I was planning to buy a new car, I started evaluating my choices. The cars that I considered were Swift Dzire, Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Aveo, Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Verna.
After having done some research and test drives, Ive concluded that Dzire is the clear winner. The factors that affected the decision were its mileage, driving comfort, pick up and price.
The car has got excellent pick up. Fiesta wont even come close. The driving comfort is also much higher when compared to the competitors.
The car has a mileage of 18km on diesel. The highest claim is by fiesta, and its 22. But fiesta is costlier by 2 lakhs and the pick up is very bad. Also the interiors of fiesta sucks. But fiesta has got more leg space.
Swift Dzire full option ex showroom price is 6.7 lakhs. It comes with airbag and ABS brakes. The medium version without airbag and ABS brakes costs 5.8 lakhs.

I never knew maruthi ve released this car by now. Wow, it seems all the Fiesta people are going to face the after effects of ford engine if they are to dump their babes.
Feels like a Nikon D40 vs D80
Cool CAmeRa

what is your general opinion about swift dezire? are you going for it becuase it is of Maruti’s product?
Comment by Jose William — April 15, 2008 @ 3:35 pm
i dont think that the dezire can make it through because ford as a brand can compete with the dezire/
Comment by Jose William — April 15, 2008 @ 3:36 pm
To be frank, ford is nt a good brand to compare with maruthi(Suzuki), as far as the resale and performance (take it after 2-3-5 years) is concerned, maruthi is still more experienced and worth ,than ford on Indian roads.
Next on road will be a collaboration of TATA and FIAT. Seems like there is a hybrid under development. Lets see what it will be like.

But how these deals are being done by dealers with convenience through the Maruti Udyog Ltd. Very surprising to see and shame to MUL as well as to the Indian Nation
Why Maruti is not maintaining the priority list on their website, Reason there off. I booked on 28th March but I am not known my priority list and dealer is hiding to disclose the priority list cause some favourism are being done through the dealer or Maruti Udyog Ltd by all means to the influencial persons.

I have bought a dzire LDI version. I find the car is ok. Though the interiors are poor when compared to my Santro – the cover of the gear box has gaping gaps and the trims are certainly of poor quality. The dicky door is flimsy and does not have a inner pad.
The engine is great and the city mileage is about 13kms per lt. Long distance is just about 17kms. But the brakes and feel is great on a highway

Compare Dzire with Logan n Tata Indigo ,
Not with that of Fiesta,City corolla or verna ,They are a class apart in luxury.
Comment by prince — May 26, 2008 @ 4:01 pm
Fiestas interiors sucks. The only advantage fiesta has over Dzire is mileage and space. Dzire wins in every other comparison.
Corolla and Verna are next level cars. Cant compare them with Dzire.

Comment by ashoksingh — July 26, 2008 @ 9:16 pm
I have driven this frog ( maruti Dzire). The only thing which I understand is that it is selling just because it is Maruti. We Indians are crazy about maruti because it was the first company to offer a Maruti 800 in the era of ambassadors and premier padminis. Coming to present scenario, Maruti’s market share is approximately hovering around 45 – 47 percent down from 80 % in the initial days. Technology wise DZIRE is a poor product. All DZIRE waiting list are going to disappear once Ford India launches IKON 1.4 TDCi diesel car in september/ October 2008. Overall IKON will be a more spacious, fuel efficient, fun to drive car. I also understand Ford has a better record of safety than maruti. So all friends who are fed up by long waiting lists of DZIRE, cheer up your DZIRE will be delivered in September / october before Ford launches IKON. Otherwise you may be driving a Fresh IKON 1.4 TDCi diesel.
Comment by Sanjeev — July 27, 2008 @ 4:10 pm
As a market analyzer I am observing maruti is losing market share very rapidly. Hyundai i10 has eaten in to the small car where as tough competition is offered by Honda, Hyundai and Ford. I feel in the coming years Maruti will be holding market share below 35%

the long wait for the new car is probably because of the possible break up between maruti and FIAT….the wonder engine might not run dzire anymore..

I had booked Dezire Zdi clear beige mettalic in mid-April and got the same delivered in mid-Sept. The car has been in use for nearly one month. It’s a nice car to drive especially through city traffic as you don’t need to change gears frequently. But the ride quality is not very diserable, it is infact bumpy on uneven roads. The standard tyres (185/70 R14) are of JK Vectra (Poor in comparison to Michelin Energy or MRF ZVTS or Yokohama) and along with the poor suspensions end up giving a not so good ride quality as compared to Fiesta or Verna (around 1 lakhs more in price for their models with the same features). Anyway I am happy with the buy as it gives overall value for money in this segment.

I v booked LDi variant during July 08 at Popular Kochi. On an enquiry, the dealer says I’ve to wait atleast for 6 months. Due to the long waiting for the vehicle, the initial charm for it is lost by now. It is learnt with real surprise that even in this era of mushrooming of cars, people like me are waiting for the Dzire. Maruti may take approapriate steps to boost the production of the Car!
Comment by Leslie — October 30, 2008 @ 10:46 pm
All those who booked dezire should take note of the fact that Maruti pays interest on the booking amount at 12% and pleople while taking delivery should not forget to ask/collect this amount from the dealers. I had to ask for it and got the cheque after 3 weeks of delivery.
Apart from that I must add that I have driven the dezire ZDi car for 2200 km and I am happy with its pickup, AC and build quality. It has given me recently 20.4 km /liter mileage on highways with an average of 18.3 km/lit with 30% city drive.

dzire is a good car from maruti….brand name, good A.S.S, can trust……on the other hand Ford ikon tdci has a proven and tested engine from fiesta….on road cost is reasonable as compared to dzire…but ford has a poor name … poor A.S.S…very high cost on spares… but ofcourse ikon TDCi has a better engine than Dezire…power, pickup and space is anytime better in ikon…both the brands now waiting period…ikon comes with a waiting of 1month and Dezire with 6months…seems that both maruti and ford have joined together to capture the market share….

Surpringly dzire vxi does not have rear defogger making driving in misty and rainy conditions very difficult and risky. I have written several letters to the company pointing out the above fact and also bought to their notive that all the vxi models do have rear deffoger. I further sought to make a request to replace it and or modify the same at my cost. Till date the company has not cared to reply the same.

I have been using a Dzire VXi for more than an year now. It is a great car with awasome power. I have got 11.5 – 12.5 Km/L in city driving at Chennai and best to 15.5 Km/L on long drive to Bangalore. Driving comfort is good even for 4 hrs of continuous driving . Good boot space for a week end trip with family. Only setback is rear visibility and a blind spot during turning. I still believe this is the best buy at this price.

My Swift Dzire LXI -Purchased on Jan -2011; Done 1800Kms- has the perennial problem of engine over-heating which has repeated even after the 1st and 2nd service of the vehicle. Everytime the engine over-heats, the car stalls and fails to restart. We have faced this problem for 8 times till date. We have informed about this problem/defect multiple times to the Service Center which they failed to resolve till date. This problem has aggravated over a period of time.
On 23rd August, this vehicle has stalled after running for 24Kms at a stretch and the support team at r had to tow the vehicle to their service center. The Service center folks has informed me that they have inspected the engine and they found it faulty .They informed us that, they have send the pictures of the faulty section inside the engine to the MarutiSuzuki-Delhi center. The vehicle is now with theService Center.
It’s extremely disappointing that it has happened to a vehicle which ran for just 1886 Kms. My other car – Hyundai – i10 Auto; Purchased on May-2011 ; Done 3000Kms has no problem till date.
We have conveyed the message that we will not be able to accept any engine which has opened and re-assembled at the service center.
Didn’t expect this from MarutiSuzuki.
With Regrets,
Shevas
