    Religious Freedom ?????

Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

I was quite surprised to read the news about the two 7th day adventists who were allowed by the Kerala High court to write the SSLC examination after dark, to protect their so called religious beliefs. It was a very bad thing to do, and its not something to be encouraged.
I want to know what those girls are going to do when they get into some company where saturday is a working day. I want to know how much loyal they will be to their faith. And what about their 7th day friends who wrote the examination in day time ? Will they be burned at stake, or will they be denied of salvation ….. Nuts…..

What if the Muslims are going to demand a holiday on friday ? What if tomorrow I form a religion and say that my followers must be allowed to walk naked through the streets. Will the Supreme court allow that saying that its a religious matter ?

Why is there a ban on meat trade in Gujarat ? No trader is asking the Jains to eat meat. Why are other religion followers forced to accommodate for a Jain festival ? Is this secularism ? What is tomorrow Christians go to the court saying that all meat trade be stopped during their Lent period ?

The word secular is being misinterpreted here. Secular means free from all religions, not bound to any religion. Secular does not mean tolerating any nonsense that is propagated in the name of religion and stupid religious belief.

    1. What will happen if these 7th day MASS become doctors or nurses, as the neglect to face an operation or delivery on day time of Saturday. Should they need DARK for their work !!! Then we should not trust these guys becoming doctors , nurses, soldiers or any other emergency service personal.

These all are coming from the actual DARKNESS created by Religions , the real failure . These are not Religious believes, but Ridiculous Behavior !!!

    3. Thats a cool one Anand. You should definitely be lodging a complaint quoting this ruling. You will get it granted. I dont know whether this is contempt of court… but I must say supreme court made a big mistake with this ruling…

    4. I want Friday holiday now!!! ;-) Thanks for the idea kenny…

Seriously thinking, there was this other guy in the class of those two girls who chose to write the SAY exam. That is the ideal solution for those minorities in a similar fix. Minorities need to find such solutions the system willingly offers if it does come in the way of their religious practice.

I dont know whether this is contempt of court, but, the court should have instructed them to take the SAY exams.

If Jerusalem was not as rough on a Muslim as it is now, i would have migrated long back. There, the weekend off is three days. friday for the muslims; saturday for the jews and sunday for the christians.

well, what a sheer loss of productivity? Why cant each sect take a day off based on his/her religious needs? even in india. Any one day that the person can choose.

    5. Thanks for the comment Jaleel. Jerusalem has one more speciality, its a holy place for 3 of the worlds largest and influential religions. The most blood shed in the name of religion also happened there.

I want to see a world with just humans and no Gods.

    6. If they study and stick on their oath like this, those two girls of course get some “Night Jobs” .

I am remembering this song now “Saturday night Parttikku pokalaaam variyaaa ” from Azhakiya Tamil Makan

      :)

    7. This is a very sensitive subject. I am really disappointed that the Supreme Court has given such a verdict – this opens the door to a lot of other demands.

Though the Indian constitution guaranties every Indians freedom and equality, The equality part is contradicted, as the constitution itself divides the people as SC/ST – higher class, Lower class, Minority community …

This will lead to a lot of contempt from the common man just like we saw when the reservation quota’s were implemented.

In the name of equality, we administer inequality…

    8. Very True
Secularism indeed means free from all religions, it doesn’t mean special priorities for each religion.
There are too many things going unnoticed by these courts and who is giving a damn to it??
First give priority to humans, then to Gods and beliefs.

    9. Hi
there is a factual error in the posting. It is the Kerala High Court that gave the verdict.

    11. very well written..religion, for most people, is not about God or spirituality, but just like politics, a platform and tool for wielding power and manipulating people.

    12. I agree with Kenney in the essence of the post. But using words like ‘nonsense’ or ‘stupid’ to categorise the people who have such beliefs is not very diplomatic. There are less inflammatory ways to put across the same message. :)
Lets all just lead by example, and practice what we preach. Every one counts. A little by little, change will trickle down thru the ranks.

Interesting fact about Jerusalem that I didn’t know. I’d kill for a weekend like that. lol. no offence. :P
