Why I Hate Poetry - Scientific Explanation

Post Page Rank

In an earlier post I had I had mentioned that I hate poems and poets. Now I know why I hate them. Now I understand why I hate most of the things I hate. I attended a session on from a well known in Trivandrum.

He talked about brain readiness. Children are not supposed to walk until they are around 1 yr old. We dont force them to walk before that. We will never say to a 6 month old child “Hey you have been lying there for 6 months, now get up and walk”. We know the child is not ready and forcing him will retard his growth.

The same is true with also. When we force a child to learn something before he is prepared to learn it, it makes the process very difficult and creates an impression on the child that its very hard. He starts to hate it also. Usually this happens with maths. Students forced to learn to count, learn to recite multiplication tables, and really hurting comments from teachers can really make you hate maths. The same is true for all subjects.

So what happened with me was, I was not ready for any of those “Mahakavis” great sanskrit . And my malayalam teachers were not very friendly also. (No offence meant). So there is no surprise why I hated malayalam.

But recently I have taken interest in malayalam literature. Just want to know what I missed. ;)

Then kenney my question is: You like chemistry, physics, biology , civil etc etc subject very much right? since you studied these subject from your 8th standard :)

I used to love physics, chemistry and biology. I scored a 49 for chemistry in the 10th. But after that I wanted to focus on CS and these subjects were in my way. Then again, its not the subjects I hate, its the idiots who forced them on me that I hate.

With malayalam its a different story. It became a pain in the ass when those semi sanskrit nonsense was introduced. Never could read a full poem even after 5 yrs of learning malayalam. Even the teachers werent that friendly.

I still remember how demoralising it was, being not able to understand the real message behind Sukumar azhikkodes and prof mundasserys articles in our malayalam textbooks after 10 years of malayalam educations. Man… their writing totally suck. Boooring !!!!!

Hi Kenney,

I think children are capable of by heart poems by hearing. So it is not a tedious thing. You faced problems with poems, it is up to you only. There are people who are interested in these and giving some values to them as a human being with some social obligations.

That was a beautiful explanation for hating poetry; but I don’t agree at all!

@Meghnak
I also am trying to love poetry. But somehow I can appreciate only the simple ones.
