The Red dot that means your mobile warranty is void.

I am sure most of you are unaware of this little secret feature that most of the mobile phones have. This can cause fights with the warranty and customer care team of your mobile company. I had a bad experience with Motorola.

There is a small white dot on your mobile, mostly under the back cover. Open your phone and check. Most mobiles have it as a white dot, some has it as a white square or rectangle. If you have found it, and if its white, then its ok. But if its red, that means your mobile warranty is void.

This is a feature that phone manufacturers have put to detect whether your phone has fallen into water. When this dot comes into contact with water, the dot turns red and the company will deny warranty.

One day my moto ming shutdown and would never turn back on. I took it to the customer care and those fellows told me that I wont get warranty cos the dot is red. I am sure that my phone has not got in touch with water.

Thanks to my friend Hari, his skills to negotiate proved useful, when he could make them open the phone and check for any signs of water slash. They also were surprised the see the phone internals neat and with no signs of any water splash. We called up the higher authorities and got my phone repaired.

So the lesson is that, DONT BELIEVE THE RED DOT.

good to know. I think if that ever happens to me I will just paint it with white out or something.

Adams idea is really cool. Simple solutions for simple problems. It never occurred to me that I can paint the thing white and get my guarantee.
