Linux is becoming quite popular now a days. A derivative of Unix – Linux is one of the most stable operating systems available and it all comes free. The most popular distribution of Linux is the Red Hat (Now the free version is called Fedora). The biggest draw back that Linux used to have was that it was not user friendly, but with the advent of other distributions like Ubuntu and Mandriva the Linux Desktop has become better than the windows desktop.
We are using Fedora Core 3 on our office server, and it comfortably manages all our DHCP, DNS, File Sharing (Samba) , Domain Controller (Ldap), Printer Sharing (CUPS), Internet Proxy (SQUID). And to top all this off – we are running two virtual machines inside the installation – one is a windows 2000 installation that is controlling our Point of Sale Software and the other is an Windows XP installation managing the Anti-virus in our network.
Extremely Stable – It has been up and working on a machine with Pentium 4 3.0GHz HT Processor with 2 GB DDR Memory, for a period of 2 and a half years my down time has been 1 day.

Impressive! Glad to see someone else having success with using Linux, even using Windows inside of it! (That’s a kick in the nuts)
