My Server admin today had a chat with me about a serious issue. CUSAT is planning to issue him a NFT(Not fit for technical education) certificate soon because he could not clear all of his engineering papers. He has got one more year and he is planning to quit his current job and freelancing opportunities get a “good for nothing” CUSAT engineering degree.
I dont know how these idiots in CUSAT determined that my server admin is not fit for technical education. He has an 8 hr day job, where he manages servers which hosts thousands of websites. After that he looks after all of my servers which is the hard part cos we always work on the edge, new stuff always. If he is not fit for technical education no one in India is fit for an education.
I have seen 100s of real idiots possessing a CUSAT degree. Good for nothing people, have no desire to learn anything, do anyhting, all that they want is the pay check and a good sleep. My admin is not like that. If CUSAT issues my admin an NFT, shame on you….. CUSAT.
My admin learned everything on his own. I still remember him buying a RedHat Bible while he was S3, and a legend named “Anoop Alias” was born.
I have a small suggestion for CUSAT, a small change is needed in their NFT certificate.
“CUSAT is not fit for technical education”

Absolutely right

Man if Anoop isn’t fit for technical education, who is?????????…..He is one of the most technically sound guys I have seen[at least when we were in college]….

Shame on CUSAT….
The problem is with their structure of examination and syllabus. So many unnecessary subjects are there in the syllabus…
Comment by Jinson — October 22, 2007 @ 10:23 am
totally agree….is there anything we can do abt this?
Comment by Giju — October 22, 2007 @ 12:36 pm
this is why , i do not believe in academics
Comment by Sachin Krishna — October 23, 2007 @ 10:55 pm
that is true. i realized that when i came here in United States. We learn nothing in 4 years, and the CUSAT degree certificate is the certificate of doing injustice to your talents
Comment by AARON — October 25, 2007 @ 7:21 pm
what you say is real………
an engineering graduate doesn’t learn anything useful after college………..
if they could introduce some activities to engage students in development work or design…………it would be useful.
rather than just producing graduates like a factory. Our academic projects are not enough….When studying electronics engineering in semester 7 i had a paper on java. The course tells about oop approach but doesn’t have any space for the student to program……..it finishes with some description of UML..but forgets to teach the student to program……..
if the course could reflect something from the real world it would be better…….i have seen a Btech (EEE) graduate who says he don’t know how to fix a blown fuse at his home.
Comment by Maneesh J — October 26, 2007 @ 10:13 am
Kenney u r absolutely right….It is not a matter confined to CUSAT….Just look at the MG, Kerala, Calicut universities…..You could see the same scenario….I think at least CUSAT is a better option among them….What we could do is nothing but to get into the top heads of this university which is not a possibility in near world till our politics long lives……So whjat we could do is try to think bout a new university where there wont be mugging up kind of learning and also mug up kind of teaching….So lets hope some day in near future it comes up and saves our talented youngsters from the firm grips of CUSAT and other such Muggled up universities…..

omfg… its not prob of cusat.. its the problem of our **education system.. our educational experts should understand that knowledge is something which cannot be rated with certificates..its more than to hold in some waste papersholdings.
but unfortunately we all still live in the cube and cannot get out from it..

Shame on you people..If he is that clever why can’t he clear the paper… It shows his arrogance and you fools are supporting it.. Why you intelligent guys join CUSAT and waste some one’s oppurtunity if u can’t spare time for clearing the exams… Shame..

cusat is full of drunkards and chain smokers. They do all mischieves to pass exams. Poor techies get failed due to the incompatible syllabus. The teachers are the most aggressive thinga in cusat. They think labs and classrooms are their family property.
The most evil branch in cusat is the Mechanical. Second is safety-civil. All mechs and safety guys are drunkards and smokers. I hate every one of them. dangerous people, cruel and dirty.
IT branch is stuffed with govt reserved SC local blackies
Computer science is the most graceful bunch with pretty girls and techie guys.

Let me introduce my background. I have endured the CUSAT education system. I have also managed to get a Masters in Engineering from University of Illinois, one of the top ten universities out here in US for engineering.
I would just say what I have found here. Everything has to be practical here. Every theory that is being taught is tested or experimented in the labs. Theory and practice are not considered as two separate entities. They are just two sides of the same coin and we have to explore both.
This would enable us to appreciate the technology that we are learning in a better way. We know what is happening and the technology is not some dead words in a yellow textbook in a boring typeface. It is the action, by which mankind has managed to improve the living conditions.
This totally explains the only complaint that I hear about Indian IT professionals. Most of us are good at writing never ending lines of codes and are good at maintenance projects. When it comes to imagination, creativity and fresh design of architecture or entrepreneurship, we still lag behind (Kenney, I am generalizing here). We are getting trained to be working under someone. Not to get the next big idea to reality.
Secondly, another interesting aspect to education here is that all the subjects are elective. It is not a fixed course of meal that is provided that we are forced to have regardless of what we need. Of course there are requirements like you have to have a fixed number of advanced subjects etc, but the student can choose the subjects according to how he wishes to specialize. He doesn’t have to endure a mind numbing array of totally irrelevant or obsolete subjects in order to get his degree.
If CUSAT in particular and Indian Engineering education in general can implement these, there would not be another Anoop Alias getting NFT. In the US education system he is more likely to get another set of three letters: PHD. Let us hope and pray that CUSAT can attain it sooner than later.
Comment by Issac Cheriyathu — April 11, 2008 @ 11:26 am
Bingoooo… He surely deserves a PHD in Linux. Why is PHD limited to the academic book worms in a boring attire ?
Practical should be the word in engineering. Atleast we should be able to relate to the subjects that we study. Boiler technology in computer science syllabus……… haaaaa
Im just praying for Anoop….. and similar dropouts.
Comment by admin — April 11, 2008 @ 11:38 am
At least here PHD is awarded not based on how many years you have been (WTF — whatever you have been doing)
At most reputed universities in the US, a PHD can be attained even in two years, if the quality of your work is good that is.
And work means actually doing something. Not just writing some paper about some obsolete technology after reading from thirty other obsolete books.

what u have mentioned is right. each year they are producing some good for nothing people..i am also a victim. such type of syllabus cannot produce technically sound engineers.
Comment by govind — May 13, 2008 @ 4:56 pm
u r absolutely right……… Me too is from CUSAT .To be frank 70% of my classmates are STUPID in my sense… They are not bookworms ,i dont know to which category they belong…. They Studies during class intervals… and gets panic when teacher says about TESTPAPER(Just class tests!)Leaves home when 4.00 PM is reached!,Talks with girls more than with boys…gets tensed if he loss his 1 mark….Studies daily with time tables…..Still should beg parents to go for an outing(funny… presently they have right to marriage as they are 21!).I have a friend who is studying in ma collge who go for masonry and earns money to remit the College fees,he smokes and is from a poor family.. The above mentioned holy guys look him with PUCCHAM(I used this word because i think there is no better word in English to bring the PUNCH of tha malayalam word PUCCHAM..)
Now Kenney… I think your admin is really gr8, he was able to manage his servers during his studies…Tell CUSAT to f***********

I’m a part of a movement of student engineers in Mumbai university. I’m trying to dig out info about the systems in place for engg in other communities. Can you give me a gist of the how the students are promoted in CUSAT, how many subjects are they allowed to keep per term. Is there a ‘year-drop’ system in place for those who exceed the number of subjects in which they fail?
I’m sorry to ask this in a comment but I couldn’t locate any contact email on your site. Thanks for your time.
Comment by Rohini — February 7, 2009 @ 1:21 pm
@ Ikru- I guess by your comments you are one of that non thinking dumb chicks who can mug and fart without knowing what you really did during your course. You will never know what intelligent people are
Well issuing NFT for a time bound memory recall in the name of technical examination is not fair. Here its the amount of answer sheets and memory recalling that is measured and conducted corporally.Does anyone care if the candidate has any learning disabilites like Dyscalculia ,were recalling sequential routine in a fixed time frame is not possible? The guy would have above avg IQ as he could think spatialy rather than sequentially.Issuing NFT based on this is not fair.

May be even I am about to get NFTE from my university soon, even though the only subject I can’t learn is Mathematics(Differentiation and Integration, rest all, I can score 100 out of 100)…..
)
So historically, I’ll be the student with highest marks to get NFTE (I scored fourth highest percentage in the branch even by failing in one subject(if I could have somehow passed this, then i would be the top scorer), this is what I can say is fate)
It would be better if you can suggest a few certification courses that I can do in computer field, so that I can get a good job even without the B.Tech. degree….
Please I am in serious need, since the result will be declared almost after an year, and all I’ve got is just this year to prove myself…
I can learn any computer related language with ease(these are much easier than any communication language we speak or write), and can solve complex problems related to computer, and can do the job of software testing and debugging and have knowledge on working with web servers and website development and have already learnt many languages(like python, c, c++, java, php, mySQL, ajax, js, vb, MIPS16, MIPS32, MATLAB, and also HTML
Comment by Gagan — February 10, 2010 @ 1:55 pm
i completly agree with you. One of friend having last chance to clear his papers if not he be granted NFT. right now he working as home automation engineer. He is the only person in his whole company to handle all sites in north india. His boss is in awe of him cos of the way he handles n carry his task.if he is unfit for technical education then he should have failed very first day. After all Indian Education system just make syllabus for bookworms, not job oriented or that could inspire people to do new wonders. Even the system of checking the papers is worst. Such people are called who don’t even know well the paper they going through. They just putting the technical education in depressions.
