Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

The quality of engineering education in Kerala has become really bad. The private engineering colleges, which I thought would do more to make the students good techies have failed miserably. They are over focused on the syllabus and the university rules. The students are not getting much room to experiment with various interesting things.

Learning beyond text books should be given importance. I have got freelancers in my company, who are engineering dropouts, but excellent in what they do. Even our system/network admin is a dropout. But from the first year onwards his interests were in networking and linux administration. There are many people like him who got no recognition from the college.

Its time that colleges be made independent from universities. Every college should be a deemed university, they should be able to decide what they teach and how they teach. The rule of the game should be “Survival of the fittest”. Colleges must be competing with each other to be the best in technology.

We need to have technology evangelists from the industry who will baptize the college students to become techies of the future. Unless we will become slaves of the outsourcing services industry.

If you find this post interesting please digg it.

    1. This must be the prime reformation that must have to be made in technical education.
