Hi, I am Kenney Jacob, love blogging about Education, Media hypocrisy and Social Issues.

    Linux Logo

I have used mobile handsets with Symbian, Windows and Linux. The most stable and user friendly was Symbian, but industry reports say that Symbian is losing market share. Linux and Windows are competing with each other for the smart phone market.
Linux is going to be a clear winner, because windows mobile is almost like windows desktop. It crashes often, needs reboot periodically and is often buggy. The only advantage is that its much easier to use than linux.

Moreover almost every manufacturer is trying out linux.

Motorola is coming up with its Mobile Linux platform MOTOMAGX. It will be open and will have support for web applications.

GreenPhone, another initiative from Qtopia also uses Linux. It comes with its own software development kit and the phone is quite cheap when compared to other smart phones.

Intel is launching its linux based Mobile internet Device.

Palm CEO recently announced that they will be releasing a new Operating system next year, which will be based on Linux. Palm already has got windows phones.

Google’s GPhone will be powered by Linux operating system. Call will be free on a Gphone and will be supported by advertisements.

Its time to switch to linux.

(I already did, my motorola A1200 runs linux)

    2. I dont think Gphone is a physical phone, its the OS (android) provided by google which can run on many phones.

    3. I’ve worked at Motorola for three months as a QA. We had many models on LJ platform (Linux Java).

      To Quote from Motorola Website,

“MOTOMAGX Motorola’s next generation mobile Linux platform leverages performance, flexibility and a strong ecosystem to deliver rich experiences and rapid innovation across mid- and high-tier phones. Motorola’s first products based on the MOTOMAGX platform are the MOTOROKRTM Z6, MOTORAZR2 V8, MOTOTM U9 and the recently announced MOTOROKR E8, which won CNET’s “Best of CES” award in the cell phones and smartphones category.”

You can see that all the major products that Motorola believes as its next best seller are in the list.
